I see someone who really appreciates fun and a good laugh. I see a person who loathes lies, who does not like to be late for an appointment, and who, naturally, also does not like to have to wait for long. I also see someone who feels disgusted by disloyalty – and this does not apply exclusively to a relationship between a man and a woman – and who cannot bear to lose anything. I see a person who values the company of friends, who enjoys beauty and intelligence, who feels comfortable around lively and funny people, who enjoys sharing and who likes to dream. I also see a funny boy, who does practically everything that people his age do, although he must be a bit more careful, and the inevitable sense of responsibility that comes with the fact of being considered a public figure. Many are those who, all through my career, have asked me this question. It is not at all true. I might not do exactly the same, but I allow myself different types of pleasures that may not be within the reach of the majority. It is true I do not often go to discos, because I know that resting is essential to my job, but as for the rest I am not too different from the boys of my generation. The truth is, I try to be a perfectly normal young man. The mirror also reveals a child. I am a child, with pride, and I will do anything to remain as such. Age, in my opinion, is just a detail, and an irrelevant one. The charm of life is in fully preserving that childish aspect, for only in that way will we face setbacks more easily, and more optimistically. In truth, that is the only way to be happy. But I want to be a child who listens to the advice given by those who are older according to their years. I recently read a book about two men meeting. One of them was 110 years old, and had an immense life story to tell, but his eyes revealed a bright glow and great pureness, not the traces of age. For he simply did not allow the sum of his years to be reflected in his gestures, in his demeanor, in his way of life. I identified myself with this example of joviality. For this reason I state that age is but a detail. The child within all of us must never die. I will not allow that to happen to me, not even when I am 60, 70, 80 or 90 years old. I want to be a child forever. I never want my eyes to stop shining. I always want to have a smile for life. ─────────────────────────────────────── England's player of the year On April 22nd, 2007 I received two awards that filled me with pride: England's best player of the year andbest young player of the year. I felt even more honored because both distinctions were the result of a vote by the professional footballersassociation, which only once in the history of the Premier League had awarded both trophies to the same player, and in the same season: that happened 30years ago to Andy Gray, who played for Aston Villa. Now it is me who comes after him, and that fact, per se, could not leave me unmoved. I make an effort to improve each day that goes by, and this public acknowledgement was a kind of reward, another reward, for all the work I have been doing. I realize that this season is going well for me: I have scored goals, I have made key passes, Manchester United and I are both doing well. For that reason, I believed in the possibility of winning one of the awards I was nominated for. But the thought of winning both awards, I admit, did not go through my head, for I had worthy competitors. I admit that it surprised me. I only received the good news on the day of the awards, for protocol dictated that before the ceremony I had to pose with the trophies for the cameras and I would also give a few interviews. This was because at the end of the ceremony I needed to leave for the airport immediately, where a plane waited to take me back to Manchester. The game against Milan, for the semi-finals of the Champions' League, would take place two days after that, and I had no time to lose. It was a lightening trip: I left Manchester around 2:00 pm, and before midnight I was back home again. I was accompanied by some of those who are dear to me, and also by my coach, Alex Ferguson, and that iconic figure that goes by the name of Bobby Charlton. We had already met in Manchester United's dressing room, since he is a constant presence in our club, but the moments we shared on the plane allowed us to talk together in a more deep and intimate manner. We exchanged opinions about the Premier League, about Manchester United's career, about the Champions' League. My admiration for Bobby Charlton was reinforced. If that is still possible. When I arrived at the hotel where the ceremony took place, I did not waste much time changing clothes. In my daily life I like to wear simple clothing, that is, I prefer sportswear, absolutely casual wear, in which jeans play a prominent role. But occasionally I also like to wear a suit, preferably with no tie. This ceremony required that I look a little more care about my appearance, because I already knew that I was going to receive the awards. I chose a black suit, a white shirt and a bow tie. I went to the ceremony, and at the moment I held both awards for the first time, I offered up a wide smile, full of happiness, while I thought: "Ronaldo, you have to work even harder, to become even better. Nothing ends here. Everything begins here, enough said, this is another step on your pathtowards maturity." For most of the time, I kept calm. I only felt somewhat nervous a few moments before my name was announced for the first award of the night, Best Young Player of The Year. But even with the room filled with around a thousand guests, I quickly got past that sensation. It was with a feeling of great joy, honor and pride that I went up to the stage for the first time, and shortly after that for the second time, to receive, from the hands of Alex Ferguson, the trophy for England’s Best Player of The Year. I heard him refer to me as "the best football player in the world today", and that statement, coming from him, sent shivers down my spine. It was undeniably another striking moment in my career. After all the controversy that arose during the Germany World Cup, I managed to show that pressure only makes me stronger. I put myself to the test and I succeeded, and I believe I am proving it. From the beginning of the season I have tried to calm myself down, and wear an icy mask during the games in which whistles abounded. I ignored it, and faced them with an extra motivational factor. I made an effort not to react to provocations, whatever they were. With the help of my family and friends, I try to persist with the process of growing and maturing. The season ended up going very well for me, which leads me to conclude that the attitude I adopted was the right one. The only thing I want is to play football, and play it as well as possible, with a single purpose: the success of Manchester United. Therefore I assure you that the best is yet to come. And the best will be the league titles, which, from my point view, represent the icing on the cake. I returned to Manchester with two new awards in my bag, but still humble, and with exactly the same attitude towards life. My thoughts immediately focused on the semi-final of the Champions' League, which was to take place two days later at Old Trafford. On that magnificent stage I scored the first goal of the game, maybe the strangest of my entire career. Milan drew level and then got ahead of us, but we managed to turn the score around and won 3-2. It was another night of glory. And I hope it is repeated many, many times. -- ★ ╔╦═╮╔╮ ╭╔╮ ╭╔╦═╮ ╔╮╔╮╭╦═╮╔╮═╮ ☆ ☆ ╠╬╦╯╠╣ ║╠╣ ║╠╣ ║ ╠╣╠╣╠╬═╣╠╣ ║ ★ ★ ╰╝╰╯╰╝═╯╰╝═╯╚╯═╯ ╰╰╯╯╰╝ ╰╰╝ ╰ ☆ SCORING MACHINE︰ Ruud van Nistelrooy ★ ╔╮═╮╭╦╦╮╭╦═╮╭╦╦╮╔╦═╮╔╮ ╔╦═╮╭╦═╭═╦╮╮ ╔╮ ╠╣ ║ ╠╣ ╚╩╦╮ ╠╣ ╠╬╣ ╠╣ ╠╬╦╯╠╣ ║ ╠╣╚═╬╣ ╰╝ ╰╰╩╩╯╰═╩╝ ╚╝ ╚╩═╯╰╩═╯╰╝╰╯╰╩═╯═╩╯╰═╩╝ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.170.100.213
