Phelan Preaches Caution Over Neville
雖然Gary確定能隨隊作戰Charlton,
Mike Phelan依然堅持Gary傷勢的恢復不能操之過急。
他並表示在預備隊的本賽原本可讓他踢較輕鬆的中衛,
但目的就是要讓他在邊路跑上跑下,鍛鍊體能
Gary做到了而且結果還不錯。
現在Gary自己心情要放輕鬆,慢慢來,
之後十二月的賽事很密集,需要大家都健健康康的。
預備隊的後衛小將Adam Eckersley也推崇Gary對年輕球員幫助很多。
United coach Mike Phelan insists Sir Alex Ferguson will not rush
Gary Neville back into first team action.
The England defender survived an hour of the Reserves' win over West Brom
on Thursday night, following almost 10 weeks out with a groin injury.
Phelan said: “We wanted Gary to play 60 minutes to ease him back
into things and he came through it OK.
“He has been training for a while so it was just a case of giving him
some football. We played him at right-back and he got the work.
“We could have played him at centre-back but it was a case of
getting him up and down the field at right-back and working on his fitness."
Amid claims the veteran defender will be in Ferguson's squad for
tomorrow's trip to Charlton, Phelan is eager to preach caution
after such a lengthy lay-off.
“He has been out for a while so it is a case of him taking it easy.
“We’ve have quite a lot of games coming up so it is important
we nurse him through and when the manager decides, he will select him.
“We need to see what the effects of this game are, see what his recovery
is like and then decide.”
Meanwhile, Reserves defender Adam Eckersley admits he and his young
team-mates can only benefit from playing alongside the likes of Neville.
He told MUTV: "It's great playing with people like Gary Neville
because of his experience, and hopefully we can just learn from him.
"You've just got to take everything you can [in terms of experience],
from training, games and playing with the first team."
