Neville Bids Farewell To United


Phil Neville has completed his move from Manchester United
to Everton for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around ￡3.5million.

The 28-year-old agreed terms on a five-year deal at Goodison Park
on Thursday after passing a medical at Everton's Bellefield training ground.

Neville spent 18 years with United, rising through the youth ranks 
to eventually make 386 appearances for the Reds.

Leaving the club was a difficult decision to make,
but he promises to show the same commitment and professionalism
at his new club as he did at Old Trafford.

"This has been the most difficult decision I have ever had to make," 
he told ManUtd.com. "But I am excited about joining Everton 
and relishing my next challenge in football.

"This was a mutual decision between myself and the manager.

"I've spent 18 years of my life at the club 
and I would like to thank Sir Alex, all the players and the fans 
for their great support during that time.

"I am now going to give the same commitment to Everton football club,
David Moyes and the Everton fans. I can't wait for the new season
to get started."

Neville's first-team chances became limited in his final season
at Old Trafford, and Sir Alex Ferguson revealed the difficulty
he faced when picking a team that did not feature the younger Neville
brother's name.

"This was not a decision we wanted to make," he told us. 
"But every time I picked the team and Phil's name was not on the teamsheet,
it was very difficult for me.

"You couldn't meet a better professional 
and he leaves with the gratitude of everyone at the the club 
for his service to United.

"I wish all the best to Phil and his family," Ferguson added.

Neville made his United debut as an 18-year-old in 1995 
during the 5-2 FA Cup win against Wrexham.

Ironically, ten years on, his last game in a red shirt came against 
the Welsh side in a Reserve team pre-season friendly. 
Two days later, he had undergone a medical at Goodison Park
and completed a ￡3.5million move to Everton.

The defender made more than 300 starts in a decade with the first-team,
scoring eight goals. He made more than 60 appearances in Europe
and earned 52 caps for England.

Everton boss David Moyes admitted he was "absolutely delighted"
to sign a player of Phil Neville's "calibre and vast experience".

"We have staved off a great deal of competition to get him,"
he told Everton's website. "Several clubs were interested in
signing him but I must say from the first minute I spoke to him
he only wanted to come and join Everton.

"His attitude throughout the entire negotiation process has been first-class.

"Primarily I see Phil as a holding midfield player
but he is so versatile that he gives us not only much-needed cover
but also several additional options."

"He is comfortable playing in the holding role or at either right
or left back.

"He's a quality footballer who will, I feel certain,
improve and enhance the squad we are putting together here at Everton.
He is very much professional's professional and I am very happy to
have signed him."

菲爾·內維爾不念舊情 揭幕戰鬥曼聯必傾盡全力

    前曼聯隊球員菲爾·內維爾昨天正式告別了紅魔並加盟了埃弗頓俱樂部。英超新賽季
首日，埃弗頓將在主場迎戰曼聯。在新、舊東家的抉擇之中，內維爾最終還是將心許給
了新東家埃弗頓。內維爾稱自己非常期待能夠代表新東家埃弗頓迎戰曼聯，而且還表示
說自己會在比賽中傾盡全力，不會對昔日的東家曼聯有任何眷顧。
　　

　　內維爾在接受《曼城晚報》採訪時說道：「這就是足球特有的方式，我要用我的實際
行動告訴埃弗頓的球迷：加盟球隊之後，我會全心全力地為自己的球隊去奮鬥，就像以前
我在曼聯俱樂部效力的那18年一樣。」
　
　
　　內維爾承認曼聯俱樂部在他的心裡面佔據著特殊的地位，但是這一切都不會影響到他
在古迪遜公園球場上的表現。「曼聯永遠都留在我的血液之中，」內維爾說道。「任何人
在曼聯隊效力了那麼長時間之後，都會在心裡為它留下一個特殊的位置。」
　
　
　　「離開曼聯對我來說是一個艱難的抉擇，」內維爾繼續說道。「但是我並沒有因為離
開曼聯而過分悲傷或者失望。離開曼聯我有點興奮，就像我在那裡效力了那麼長時間之後
的感覺一樣。」
　
　
　　對於那些曾經支持著自己以及曼聯俱樂部的球迷，內維爾說道：「我對曼聯的最後一
點記憶就是球迷們對我的支持，他們第一次看見我穿上紅色戰袍時的眼神以及從那時起他
們給我的支持我都記憶猶新。離開球隊的時候，教練、球隊主席、隊友以及球迷們都給了
我最美好的祝願，那對我意義重大。」
