Beckham Pays Tribute To His Former Skipper
David Beckham has paid tribute to Roy Keane, insisting his former skipper
will go down as a United great.
The Real Madrid star admits he was shocked to hear the news of
Keane's immediate departure on Friday following twelve and a half years
service at the club.
Beckham spent eight years alongside Keane during their time together
at Old Trafford and the England captain believes the Irishman's leadership
skills are second to none.
"He's been one of the best servants the club has ever had
and has won everything in his career," said Beckham.
"It's a big shock because I thought he'd stay at United
for a few more years and perhaps go into coaching.
But he's made his decision which everyone will respect.
"I know the fans will be upset because they absolutely love him
and so did I when I was at United.
"The best thing about Roy Keane was you knew where you stood with him.
If you did something wrong, he'd tell you, but if you did something right
and played well, then he'd also tell you in his own way.
"Everyone looks up to someone like Roy. He's a great leader
who inspires all the players around him and that's one of
the main reasons why we won so many trophies together."
Former team-mate Nicky Butt echoed Beckham's views, saying:
"Roy Keane will be remembered as a true leader
and one of the best players the club has ever had."
