Keane: I want to win trophies

ROY KEANE has made public declarations in the past that he would like to
sign for Celtic one day though whether even up to a year ago
he ever envisaged this ambition being fulfilled is open to debate.
The player, however, is delighted that it has come to fruition,
though he was at pains to stress that it is a footballing decision
he has made and what he said in the past will have no bearing on
how he is viewed by supporters from now on.
“Hopefully the fans will be quite happy – I know that I am –
but I know they’ll judge me by what I do on the pitch,” he said.
“There’s been speculation over the past few years about me coming up
here but I’m under no illusions about the challenge ahead for me.
“I’m not here to unwind and it’s not a financial move for me
– far from it. I’m here seeking a new challenge and that’s to
help Celtic be successful and I think I can do that.
“I know there’s been a lot written about me about my age and injuries.
A lot of people think I’m about 94 – I’m actually 34.
I feel quite good, the medical was quite good and I was happy with
the way that went.”
Keane, who has attended a number of Celtic games in the past few seasons,
admitted that his affection for the club was a natural thing,
with him coming from Ireland.“Like any young lad in Ireland you always
have an interest in Celtic,” he said, and I’ve always had an interest
in coming up here but as I said that goes out the window now.
“In 1999 I said that one day I might like to play for Celtic so
every time I’ve been up or have spoken to anyone they’ve mentioned Celtic,
but all along I was contracted to Man United and very happy there.
I was convinced, probably up to last year that I would finish
my career there, but things change.

所以之後大家提到我的去向都會提到Celtic。
但其實從那時到之前我都還是曼聯的人，在曼聯我過的很開心。
一直到去年左右我都很確定，我將在曼聯踢到退役掛靴，
但事情是會變的。
“But if you’d asked me a few months ago about sitting here
and talking about coming to Celtic I would have said you’re mad.
I’m coming up here for the challenge and everything I said before
goes out the window. I’ve been up to a few games,
including a few away games and I’ve enjoyed that,
but my priority now I’m here is to help the team win football matches.
“I’m not on an ego trip. I’ve not come up here half-hearted.
I’m up here to train hard and to play hard and hopefully be successful.”
And Celtic supporters will be reassured that a player who has enjoyed
incredible success in England is totally focused on further success
with his new club.“I’m here to win matches and to win trophies.
For me, there’s no other reason for playing,” Keane declared.
