Charlton blames Man Utd's players
Sir Bobby Charlton has laid the blame for Manchester United's Champions
League exit at the players' door.
United failed to even gain a place in the Uefa Cup after finishing bottom
of their group.
The Old Trafford director said: "United do not have a divine right to qualify
and hopefully the players will learn from the experience.
"They will look back at this season and remember what can happen if you don't
give 100%."
United are in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup but find themselves nine
points behind runaway Premiership leaders Chelsea.
But Charlton is adamant manager Sir Alex Ferguson will find the solutions
that mean such a European demise will not be repeated.
He said: "I'm certain Sir Alex will put his thinking cap on and work out
why it happened, how it happened and how we can put it right.
"I really don't know what it was. I wish I did.
"Maybe the opposition did not motivate the players, I really don't know."
