The Dutch striker has been the subject of intense transfer speculation for months, and several clubs are credited with an interest in signing him. Rather than be drawn on the rumours, Van Nistelrooy preferred to focus solely on Holland's World Cup campaign before addressing the situation. Following his side's second round exit to Portugal, he is now free and ready to do so. The striker said: "I must get away from the World Cup and deal with it, then I will think about my future. Maybe in this coming week we have to see what United do and if there are a lot of teams getting involved." Although hinting at the involvement of other clubs, the Dutchman added that he may well remain at Old Trafford next season. "Whatever happens will happen," he said. "I have to assess that and see what is best for me. There must be some kind of contact between the club and myself. If nothing happens I'll be at United next season."
