We May Have To Go Unbeaten, Warns Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo says United may have to go the entire season unbeaten
if they are to clinch the club's ninth Premiership title.
Chelsea lost just once last season, while Arsenal had an umblemished
record the season before, with Sir Alex Ferguson openly acknowledging
that the bar has been raised.
As a trio, United, Chelsea and Arsenal are arguably as close to
each other in terms of the standard of their squads as they have ever been.
That may make the task of going unbeaten even more difficult but,
with standards increased, there is a greater requirement to avoid defeat.
"Remaining unbeaten will obviously be our aim," Ronaldo told United Review.
"But naturally it can be a very difficult thing to do.
"Sometimes you play well and deserve to win but you end up losing.
The most important thing for us is to make sure we're consistent
throughout the season."
The 20-year-old winger, who narrowly lost a bet with the manager
that he would score 10 goals last season, is hoping to add
even more goals to his game this term - and promises that Sir Alex
won't be pocketing any more money at his expense.
"I was very disappointed to lose my bet with the boss," he said.
"But we will be having another bet this season
and I know I'm going to win this time.
"Scoring goals is a great feeling, but the most important thing to me
is that the team is successful - it doesn't matter who scores the goals
as long as we're winning."
Ronaldo will be looking to make his first Premiership appearance of
the season against Aston Villa on Saturday.
He missed the league opener against Everton after aggravating
a niggling ankle injury in training.
