MANCHESTER United will field Kieran Richardson at left-back against
Liverpool on Sunday after Argentinian Gabriel Heinze was ruled out
for most of the season.
Heinze sustained cruciate knee ligament damage in United's Champions
League group match against Villarreal on Wednesday and his absence means
Sir Alex Ferguson will turn to Richardson, who is more familiar with an
attacking role.
Already without Roy Keane (hamstring),
Gary Neville (thigh),
Wes Brown (thigh),
plus long-term casualties Quinton Fortune,
Louis Saha
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
, the United squad is low on numbers and Ferguson will be forced
to use teenagers on the bench.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is expected to bring captain Steven
Gerrard back into his starting line-up.
Benitez rested Gerrard, Steve Finnan, Djibril Cisse, Stephen Warnock
and Dietmar Hamann to the bench for Tuesday’s Champions League win
away to Real Betis, but only Gerrard can expect to go straight back
into the first team.
Benitez still has Fernando Morientes out with a hamstring injury,
while Harry Kewell and Neil Mellor are long-term injury victims.
