He praised the attitude of the players and attributed the win, in part, to the support of the Old Trafford faithful. Here's what the boss had to say to Sky Sports after the game... Fantastic performance "Playing the champions is always a big game. Today was a fantastic game and I think for an hour we were terrific. I think particularly for the last five minutes we were under the cosh. They went for everything, but that's what champions do. We've done it many times ourselves in the past, we've played with Steve Bruce and Peter Schmeichel playing centre-forward in games. Chelsea went for it as we expected, but I think we maybe sat back a little bit at that point. Before that we were always getting forward and we were always a real threat to them. Must-win game "Losing would've meant a huge point difference. We've been through a bad spell and that's what happens when you've been through a bad spell, you fall points behind the leaders. I think the young players have been carrying the mantle for weeks now and all the desperation and keeness to play has been fantastic. It's a great attitude they have and so we can take something out of that. Turning it around "The plan was to make sure we played football. To make sure we played quick passing football and get it towards their box as quick as we can so we can cause damage with Ronaldo, who was always a threat to them. Also Wayne Rooney and van Nistelrooy who, as captain, was magnificent. I think if we can get the ball to these players something can happen. I think it's belief and remembering what their abilities are about. Wednesday night over in Lille, we weren't good enough to win it and you have to pick yourself up after that because we had two bad performances and two bad results. Is this the most pressure Fergie's ever faced at United? "That's utter b*****ks. There's always pressure here. We went fifteen games without winning once. People forget these things. Winning's always important here. Knowing how to handle yourself and compose yourself, I think everyone, all the staff and players have shown great dignity. No matter what the criticism, they've got on with the job. Man of the Match "It's difficult to pick when so many played well, you'd not be far wrong choosing Alan Smith as Man of the Match, but you could've had maybe three or four who deserved it. I think all the best players were on our team. Superb support "I think the thing that was a turning point for us today was the support. The supporters showed how much they care for the club. That support today was absolutely magnificent. We've had over the years in certain games like Arsenal last year, when we played Juventus here a few years ago, they were unbelievable. And I think if they're like that all the time, we can't let them down. It does raise the ante for us, it puts the players under that great pressure to do well and therefore I was pleased with that."
