弗格森賽前說，西布朗主帥布賴恩-羅布森和伯明翰主帥布魯斯，兩人都是他的老部下
、老朋友，爵爺不願看到他們其中的任何一個落入降級噩夢。然而賽場就是戰場，只有勝
負沒有人情。2-1戰勝西布朗之後，曼聯又把壓力拋給了明天上陣的利物浦。
賽後弗格森面對的焦點話題並不是比賽本身，而是范尼為何連續第四場坐在板凳上。
賽前范尼因岳母去世趕回荷蘭奔喪，但為了參加本場比賽，他從荷蘭乘機直接趕赴山楂球
場，然而他的積極性和強烈的求戰欲並沒有贏得「獎賞」，弗格森依舊把他放在板凳上，
賽前曾露出口風要休息的魯尼還是首發，與近期狀態神勇的薩哈組成雙箭頭。
「范尼與曼聯簽的是一份長期合同，對此我非常滿意。」弗格森說的與曼聯2號教練
奎羅斯賽前安撫范尼的話幾乎一模一樣。「他是一個現象級的球員，這一點所有人都清楚
，他還會得到首發機會，但眼下薩哈比他更合適，進球和狀態可以證明這一點。」
隊中頭號得分手坐在板凳上，而且是在無傷無病的情況下連續4場沒有被排進首發，難
怪最近不斷有消息稱，范尼會提前結束自己的紅魔生涯。「對他本人來說確實十分遺憾。
」弗格森說，「他需要點耐心，就像以往那樣。他從沒抱怨過什麼，范尼時刻會重現。」
薩哈梅開二度為曼聯早早確立優勢，而且兩個進球都相當精彩。不過最後時刻的丟球
讓弗格森有點不滿。「球隊現在信心很足，但是丟掉了那個球令人失望。失球原因是注意
力不夠集中，球隊為此付出了代價。我們必須改掉這個毛病。」弗格森說。
近期表現不錯的中衛布朗在賽前訓練中受傷，為保險起見，弗格森安排新人維蒂奇首
發，與費迪南德搭檔。賽後，維蒂奇得到了老爵爺的肯定。「我對他的表現非常滿意。(轉
會曼聯後)一直在進步，接下來就是自信問題了。(本場比賽)他見識到了對方前鋒的『歡迎
禮』，第一分鐘就跟凱文-坎貝爾撞在一起，這好比英超入門課程，他必須掌握。不過總而
言之，整個球隊都發揮得不錯，維蒂奇、理查森的表現都很出色，眼下的曼聯是支強隊，
非常年輕，但每時每刻都在提高。」

SIR Alex Ferguson has received no complaints from Ruud van Nistelrooy
over his absence from Manchester United’s starting line-up.
The Dutchman spent all afternoon on the bench at the Hawthorns as his
replacement Louis Saha scored the double which steered United to a 2-1
win over relegation-threatened West Brom.
It took Saha's tally for a season which only started in November because
of injury to 13 and emphasised why he is currently undroppable, and why
van Nistelrooy's stint among the substitutes looks set to continue against
Birmingham next week.
Speculation has been mounting that van Nistelrooy will quit United in the
summer if his exile continues. But Ferguson backed up the comments of his
assistant Carlos Queiroz, who insisted the former PSV star has a long-term
future at Old Trafford and confirmed van Nistelrooy has not been banging
on his door demanding to know why he is not playing.
Contract
“Ruud has a long-term contract and I am happy about that,” said Ferguson.
“We all know he is a fantastic player and he will get his opportunity again
but at the moment Louis merits his place in the team at the moment because
of his goals and his performances.
“It is unfortunate for Ruud but he just has to be patient, which he has
been. He has never complained about the situation. His time will come again.”
Saha put United ahead after 16 minutes with a firm header, then added a
well-taken second which should have allowed the visitors to cruise home.
Instead, Nathan Ellington’s late header caused a scare, although in the
end United were able to record a ninth successive Premiership win which
consolidates their second spot behind Chelsea.
“There is a lot of confidence in the team at the moment but it was
disappointing to concede the goal,” said Ferguson.
“It was a lack of concentration and it could have cost us. It is something
we need to cut out.”
