Boro to step up Smith interest

Middlesbrough are looking to push through a deal for Alan Smith when he
returns from Manchester United's tour of Asia.
Sir Alex Ferguson recently hinted that Smith could be set to leave Old
Trafford as he admitted he could not be guaranteed regular football.
United chief executive David Gill said earlier this week there had been
'no firm offers' for Smith but Boro counterpart Keith Lamb has again
stressed his interest in the player.
He said: "Our position hasn't changed. If you go back a few weeks it was
well documented that we had agreed a fee with Manchester United for his
transfer and were given permission to talk to Alan.
"Unfortunately Alan was away on holiday and when he came back he went
straight off on tour with Manchester United, so we haven't had the
opportunity to speak to Alan.
"But I'm sure that he is well aware of our interest and I'm sure that
in the next few days the opportunity to speak to Alan will present itself.
"And if it's right for Alan and if it's right for Middlesbrough, then I'm
sure that it's something that we might well conclude, you never know."
Boro boss Gareth Southgate also has huge admiration for Smith and hopes
that he will soon agree a move to The Riverside.
"It's a situation that we are monitoring very closely," said Southgate.
"It's apparent that his future at Manchester United isn't certain and he
falls into the category of being a quality player and a good character.
"That is of course someone that would interest us.
"It would appear that that situation is changing by the day, so if he wants
to move on obviously the mindset changes."

英格蘭前鋒阿蘭-史密斯距離離開曼聯又接近了一步，在結束亞洲之行後，他的轉會
談判很可能就將開始，日前，英超米德爾斯堡公開表示，希望簽下史密斯。
曼聯主教練弗格森日前暗示，史密斯可能會離開老特拉福德，因為他無法給英格蘭
前鋒打主力的承諾。而在本周的早些時候，曼聯俱樂部首席執行官大衛-吉爾也透露，雖
然目前尚沒有對史密斯的正式報價，但是多家俱樂部已經詢問了他的情況，表示了濃厚
的興趣。
實際上，史密斯的轉會沒有動靜，和曼聯亞洲行的熱身有關，史密斯隨隊參賽，暫
時無法談轉會。不過就在今天，米德爾斯堡的首席執行官蘭姆明確表示，他們對簽下史
密斯感興趣，將在曼聯回到英格蘭後開始接觸和談判。
蘭姆說：「我們的立場沒有改變，如果倒回幾個星期的時間，實際上我們和曼聯已
經達成了轉會費的協議，而且獲得了和阿蘭-史密斯談判的許可。」
「不走運的是，史密斯當時正在度假，沒法和我們談，後來他又跟隨曼聯去了亞洲
，因此我們還沒有機會和他開始談判。不過我確信，他對於我們的興趣十分清楚，而在
這幾天，我們就能夠和他談談。如果史密斯滿意，如果米德爾斯堡也滿意，我確信這事
能有結果的。」
米德爾斯堡主教練索斯蓋特對史密斯十分欣賞，他表達了得到英格蘭前鋒的渴望。
索斯蓋特說：「我們密切關注著事情的進展，顯然史密斯在曼聯的前景很不確定，但他
是一個優秀的球員，有頑強的鬥志，我們非常感興趣。看上去情況正一點點的有所進展
，如果他想轉會，情況總會有所不同。」
史密斯上賽季曾拒絕過米德爾斯堡的邀請，但當時他還不確定是否離隊，今年夏天
，在和弗格森談話之後，他清楚自己在曼聯打不上主力，已經決定離開球隊，這個時候
米德爾斯堡再來找他，很可能讓他改變主意。
另外，曼聯引進阿根廷前鋒特維斯的轉會有所進展，擁有特維斯經濟權的霍拉布欽
透露，糾紛預計會在下個星期得到最終解決。此前霍拉布欽將西漢姆告上了高等法院，
很可能最近就出結果，曼聯屆時也將得知，自己能否簽下阿根廷人。「現在存在可能，
下個星期就能得到解決。」霍拉布欽說。
