BIG-MATCH FACTS
- The 151st competitive Manchester derby and 140th league clash sees Manchester
United chasing a sixth successive league win, a second hat-trick of Premier
League titles and an 11th in all, against a Manchester City outfit, who've
won their last three top-flight outings.
- United are brimming with confidence having qualified for another Champions
League final. The Carling Cup winners and World Club champions go into the
weekend needing seven of the 12 remaining available points to be crowned
champions of England for a record-equalling 18th time.
- Sir Alex Ferguson has only been beaten five times in 54 Premier League
matches against clubs managed by one of his former players. Mark Hughes has
won two, drawn two and lost four of his eight league matches in charge of
either Blackburn or Manchester City against his mentor.
- The Citizens are on the look-out for back-to-back victories over the Red
Devils at Old Trafford for the first time in 37 years.
- Distance between the clubs: five miles (eight kilometres)
This is of course the season's shortest Premier League journey for Manchester
City, and the shortest of any top-flight club this weekend.
CLUB FORM
Going into this round of matches: 1st 80 points
1. Won 14 Premier League matches in 2009, including the last five; no other
club is even in double figures, with the exception of Chelsea (10).
2. Lost two of 23 top-flight matches, and failed to score in one of the last
18. Since losing 2-0, away to Fulham on 21 March, 14 goals have been scored
in five outings.
3. This is their 62nd match of the season; more than any other top-flight
club. Arsenal's will be their 59th - the next nearest.
4. The current total of 80 points after 34 games is the same mark as last
season, when top of the table.
5. Gone 18 league games since a goalless draw; the last being away to Spurs
on 13 December. Also, on the longest current sequence of 26 matches in the
Premier League without a score draw; the 1-1 stalemate at Everton on 25
October being the most recent.
6. The only home points dropped this season have been courtesy of defeat to
Liverpool (1-4, 14 March), and an early draw with Newcastle (1-1, 17 August).
7. Already done the double over eight clubs; West Ham, Stoke, Bolton,
Portsmouth, Blackburn, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and West Brom. Manchester
City, Wigan and Hull could still be added to that list.
8. The next fixture will be their game in hand, away to Wigan next Wednesday.
Thereafter they host Arsenal, successfully conquered in Tuesday's Champions
League semi-final. Their league programme ends away to Hull, before facing
Barcelona in Rome.
KEY PLAYER NOTES
- Edwin VAN DER SAR is leading the race for the Barclays Golden Glove with 19
clean sheets.
- Cristiano RONALDO is the highest scoring Premier League player with 25 goals
in all club competitions this season.
- The 24 year old Portugal international is also the top scorer in the Premier
League with 17 goals, leading the race for the Barclays Golden Boot by one
from Chelsea's Nicolas ANELKA.
- Paul SCHOLES needs a double to reach 100 Premier League goals - all for
United.
- Ryan GIGGS is a double shy of 150 goals for Manchester United.
- Wayne ROONEY needs a hat-trick to total 100 goals for Manchester United.
If selected:
- Rio FERDINAND will be making his 400th career league appearance (West Ham,
Bournemouth, Leeds and Manchester United).
- Nemanja VIDIC will be making his 100th Premier League appearance for
Manchester United, and 150th for the Red Devils in all competitions.
- Dimitar BERBATOV will be making his 100th English top-flight appearance
(Tottenham and Manchester United).
- Tomasz KUSZCZAK will be making his 50th career Premier League appearance
(West Brom and Manchester United).
HEAD TO HEAD
- Three points would secure a fifth double for Manchester United over City in
these Premier League derby clashes; the last was in 2006-07.
- City have won two of the last three Premier League meetings with United.
- Last season's 1-2 victory was City's first in 24 league contests at Old
Trafford since the famous 0-1 triumph on 27 April 1974 when Denis Law scored
the early goal which contributed to the downfall of his former club to the
second level.
- Manchester City have scored 200 goals in 150 competitive games against
United.

- Both sides are in good form but United, no matter who Ferguson sends out,
should have too much quality
Key opponent:
Robinho - Much has been made of the Brazilian's form this season but he is
the third in the Premier League scoring charts and full of tricks
Skysports.com prediction: Man Utd 3-0 Man City
One to Watch: Ji-Sung Park
Lawro's predictions Man Utd 2-0 Man City
If you're a United supporter then you always think this fixture as a banana
skin.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson will get his side fired up using the fact that City
have set their sights matching them by proposing to sign big-name players.
United are also very strong at the moment and are sweeping aside every
challenge placed in front of them
