PSG land Rothen but lose Heinze

PARIS (AFP) - France left winger Jerome Rothen was poised to sign for Paris St
Germain who have agreed a deal with Manchester United for their Argentina defen
der Gabriel Heinze.

Club sources told the Monday's Le Parisien that a 9 million euro (6 million pou
nd) transfer fee has been agreed with United for Heinze.

Le Parisien said PSG had agreed an 11-million euro fee for Nantes defenders Syl
vain Armand and Mario Yepes as replacements.

The 26-year-old Heinze has just broken into his national team but also has a Ge
rman passport.

rom Leeds. But it was in defence that United were found wanting last season fol

or Ferdinand, with Mikael Silvestre returning to left back.

Chelsea were reported to have made a 10 million euro (7 million pound) bid for
Heinze in January but PSG president Francis Graille said then the player would
not move until the end of the season.

A move to Spanish side Barcelona last June was also blocked by the club and he
was unhappy at being played at left-back by new coach Vahid Halilhodzic.

"On the pitch I had no complaints, but he was difficult to handle off the pitch
," Halilhodzic said last week of Heinze.

Rothen said: "I'm going to sign for PSG. I'm relieved."

Graille refused to confirm the move and Monaco's representative Jeannot Werth s
aid: "Nothing will be concluded for a few days."

But reports said a 10 million euro transfer fee had been agreed for Rothen.

The 26-year-old Rothen was outstanding in Monaco's march to the Champions Leagu
e final against Porto with his wing play in the second leg of the semi-final ag
ainst Chelsea being decisive as he almost singlehandedly pulled them round afte
r they went 1-0 down.

His agent has been negotiating with PSG for the last fortnight.
