Real Madrid claim to have called off their chase of Manchester United striker
Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The Spanish giants had held talks with Van Nistelrooy's agent and had also been
linked with Roma's Italian international Francesco Totti.
But Real president Florentino Perez said new coach Jose Antonio Camacho did not
want to pursue either player.
Perez said: "I don't see either wearing white, Camacho wants to concentrate on
other areas."
Camacho is almost certain to address Real's defensive frailties which prompted
the collapse of their Spanish title and Champions League challenges last season
.
Real extended Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos's contract by another three
years on Friday, ending speculation of a possible move to Chelsea.
And striker Fernando Morientes will also be part of the Bernabeu furniture next
term.
Morientes spent a season on loan at Monaco and Real suffered the ignominy of
their own player playing a significant part in knocking them out as Didier
Deschamps' team marched to the Champions League final.
The Spanish international declared he was prepared to return to Real and fight
for a first-team place under Camacho.
