Gill Predicts Bright Future
Chief executive David Gill believes the new-look Manchester United
have got what it takes to regain the Premiership title.
After a decade at the top, Gill says United are building for the future
with everything going to plan following the signing of Alan Smith and
Gabriel Heinze plus the arrival of Liam Miller.
"We are seeing the evolution of the squad. We've got a great compliment
in the team now we have players in each category of varying age,
varying experience and we are bringing that through," he said.
"That was part of the transition we went though last summer
when David Beckham and Juan Sebastian Veron left.
"We have brought the average wage and the average age down
and we are very comfortable with the composition in each category
of the squad at the moment. We will take it forward."
Gill says United are determined to push for honours again next season
and has hinted that the spending may not have stopped.
"Obviously we want to be up there challenging and going beyond the last 16
in the European Cup," he added.
"We want to make sure we are up there challenging until the last week's of
the season in the Premiership and the changes we have made in the squad
mean we have invested £14m in the last few weeks. Before that Louis Saha was
over £12m and while Liam Miller is on a free, those are significant
investments in the world of football at the moment.
"Those were the manager's targets and we have brought them in
and I am sure you will see us up there champing at the bit from the word go."
