Newcastle Confirm Butt Transfer
Nicky Butt has completed his move to Newcastle, the Tyneside club have confirme
d.
Butt left Manchester United's USA Tour on Monday, travelling back to England to
secure the move, thought to be in the region of ￡2.5m.
He has signed a four-year contract with the Magpies.
"Nicky Butt has officially completed his transfer from Manchester United," said
a Newcastle spokesman. "The player has signed a four-year contract and has bee
n given squad number four for the new season."
Butt will be sorely missed at Old Trafford; Sir Alex Ferguson and Gary Neville
have both spoke highly of the Gorton-born midfielder in recent days.
Butt, a popular member of the United squad, made almost 400 Reds appearances.
Gary Neville said: "I played with Nicky for fifteen years. Players do move on a
nd you always wish those players all the best but it's particularly difficult w
hen you become so close to them."
Nicky made his debut in November 1992 against Oldham and was the first of the f
amed Class of '92 to break into Ferguson's first team.
"They have got a bargain really," he said. "I hope he goes on and enjoys many g
reat years.
"Nicky joined us as a 14-year-old boy. He is the same today as he was then," he
added. "He has never changed his attitude or his character."
