Fergie Signals Rooney Intentions

Sir Alex Ferguson signalled his intentions to sign Wayne Rooney,
a player he considers to have a "great chance" of making it to
the very top.
Everton have made it clear they will reject United's offer,
but Sir Alex remains confident of landing the 18-year-old striker.
"We will discuss it again tomorrow," he said.
"But at this stage we are making our intentions clear that we would like to
have the boy. And that is the first time we have actually said it.
Ferguson spoke passionately about his desire to bring Rooney to Old Trafford
on Wednesday night, just hours after it became known United had lodged a bid,
believed to be around ￡20million for the player.
Whether United can sign Rooney before next Tuesday's transfer deadline remains
to be seen.
"We just have to wait and see what Everton say, that is the next stage,"
said Sir Alex after his side beat Dinamo Bucharest 3-0.
The Reds boss revealed he feared he had missed the opportunity to make Rooney
a United player this summer, but says Newcastle's ￡20million bid forced
United's hand.
"Newcastle making a bid probably activated the whole thing. Don't forget,
Everton haven't said he is for sale. It's always a difficult situation,
that's why we've never really done anything.
"I was always hopeful, but time was running out. You start to think there is
no chance.
"He is only 18. Nobody is the finished article at 18. He's an emerging talent
and he has got a great chance."
