Reds set for new deals

MANCHESTER United are set to open contract talks with a significant
section of their first-team squad this summer.
The Reds will look to nail down the futures of eight United veterans
and young stars.
Heading the list earmarked for discussions are long-serving Roy Keane
and Paul Scholes.
Contracts talks with Darren Fletcher, Mikael Silvestre, Quinton Fortune
and John O'Shea are also in the pipeline for the close season break.
Keane, Scholes, Fletcher and Silvestre have deals that expire in 2007,
but the Reds hierarchy always open new talks before the last year begins
- and it is understood that United want to tie them up again and will
begin the process before the new season starts in August.

Already in the ongoing file in chief executive David Gill's office
are Rio Ferdinand and Roy Carroll's deals.

Goalkeeper Carroll is expected to commit himself to a three-year
contract this week having been assured about his future and United
ranking by Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferdinand's `will he, won't he' saga continues amid speculation that
his agent Pini Zahavi is prepared to go direct to new owner Malcolm
Glazer to settle the financial side of his client's offer.

Keane's future is a cloudy one, with the inspirational skipper
suggesting he will retire at the end of next season, but Sir Alex
hoping to persuade the midfielder to change his mind.

Scholes is another hero of United's glory era destined for negotiations.
United ditched their club policy of only offering one-year deals for
players in their 30s when they granted Ryan Giggs a two-year extension
this month.
俱樂部在給Giggs續約2年的合同後，
已經放棄「球員過了30歲以後一次只簽一年」的政策。
The Welshman accepted a reduced wage deal as part of a new incentive-based
contract and Scholes could enter into dialogue on a similar basis.
不過Giggs在新合同上，同意降低薪資。所以Scholes的續約也將以此種方式來進行談判。
Fergie sees Darren Fletcher as a lynchpin in United's engine room and is
keen to cement his future, along with defender Mikael Silvestre.
Fletcher可是曼聯青訓上來，又是未來新星，所以要趕緊進行續約談判。
而不討喜的Silvestre也是。XD
The situation regarding the versatile pair of Quinton Fortune and John
O'Shea is more pressing as both have contracts that run out next summer.
Fergie最愛全方位球員了，所以 Fortune & O'Shea 續約事宜也將展開～
