Ruud admits injury error by Tom Adams - created on 11 May 2005 來源: Skysports http://tinyurl.com/8s3o9 Ruud van Nistelrooy has conceded that his desire to continue playing through the pain of injury has cost him this season. The prolific Dutchman has endured a desperately disappointing season by his own high standards, scoring just his fifth Premiership goal against Chelsea on Wednesday night. Despite carrying on his usual prolificacy in the UEFA Champions League, the Manchester United man has acknowledged that his failure to rest his Achilles injury has had a disastrous impact on his domestic form, as he has started just 15 Premiership games. United have badly missed the player who netted a remarkable 110 times in his first three seasons at the club, and are set to record their lowest goal tally in Premiership history. Van Nistelrooy has now admitted that he should have rested his Achilles, thereby preventing the three month layoff that only ended as he returned for the European tie against Milan in February. "I played with the Achilles injury for too long," said van Nistelrooy. "For six weeks maybe, I carried on, until in the end I couldn't carry on anymore. I think that cost me three months. "It was really unfortunate because I had recovered well from the groin injury and just contributed to what has easily been my most frustrating season since joining United. "I didn't have many injuries during my first three seasons, but then last summer I only had a short break, then the groin injury came, then the Achilles injury and there wasn't really any consistency there. "That makes it difficult to come back from injury and get yourself back into good form." In van Nistelrooy's absence young superstar Wayne Rooney has stepped up to the plate to head the Old Trafford goal-scoring charts, leading the line admirably despite his tender age. His Dutch strike partner was generous in his praise of the England international, insisting that the summer signing can still improve as a player. "Wayne has done really well," van Nistelrooy continued. "He came here with a lot of expectation around him and he is only 19. "The thing that has impressed me most is that he has dealt with all that. "It is important to see players grow when they come here. What he has shown so far is quite remarkable and I still think there is more to come."
