Ferguson: Fans Deserve Worthy Season Finale
Sir Alex Ferguson this week turns his attentions to the final
of the FA Cup, a competition he says has been good to United,
to salvage silverware from a disappointing season.
Although Ferguson's side achieved 'championship form'
between November and March in the Premiership - in 17 games
during that period United won 14 and drew 3 - the Reds could not
match the season-long consistency of Chelsea.
Add to that a second round Champions League exit to AC Milan
and the ongoing uncertainty over the club's ownership,
and the level of frustration is heightened.
Five of the club's 11 FA Cup success to date have come
under Ferguson's rule, and the United boss wants to add another
to his collection against in-form Arsenal on Saturday.
"We hope we can win the FA Cup for the fans,"
he told Manchester United Radio. "We've won it more times
than any other club and it has given us a place in history.
"It's been a good cup for Manchester United. We've won it eleven times.
I've had some great times in the FA Cup. There have been exciting games
away from home and thrilling extra time wins.
"You only have to look at Ryan Giggs' goal against Arsenal
at Villa Park in the semi final replay, or the momentous semi final
versus Oldham.
"I always remember my first FA Cup game, a Derby match
against Manchester City; we won 1-0 with five minutes to go.
All these occasions have been gripping football matches."
Sir Alex accepts his side have underperformed this term.
The well-documented but unusual ailment of failing to score
is the manager's prognosis for a below-par campaign.
"It's been disappointing," he says. "We place great store
in the club's history in European competition.
We have won two trophies but that doesn't compare to some of
the other great teams in European football.
"Yes, we have been unlucky some years, should have done better
in others and sometimes we've thrown chances away.
"The bottom line is we should be doing better in Europe.
We played AC Milan, we had eight chances and didn't hit the target once;
that's killing us. It's a real disappointment.
"And, in the Premiership, Chelsea have had a fantastic season,"
adds Sir Alex. "Even if we'd have been at the top of our form
we would maybe not have caught them anyway.
Getting the points record shows they have been exceptional.
"That means the FA Cup final is a big, important game for us now."
Ferguson wants to win the trophy as a reward for the unwavering endurance
shown by the club's fans, but the Reds boss knows his words
will prove hollow unless his players can put right the on-field wrongs
of the campaign in Cardiff at the weekend.
"Missing chances has happened right the way through the season,"
he complains. "That has got to stop. Against West Brom, it was ridiculous.
I think we've dropped 20 points against the bottom clubs this season.
"We can look at ourselves and say 'are we picking the right teams
for these games?'. But, we have a squad of players that are all
well-paid internationals. The players have to accept the responsibility."

看完真的很欽佩Sir Alex
他為曼聯做了這麼多事
或許有人會批評他把太多重點放在歐冠上
可是他這麼做
是為了要讓曼聯在歐洲歷史上和其他歐陸球會一樣有更多榮耀
能和他們平起平坐
對於曼聯的期許和熱愛是如此的深
而每次在歐冠賽事前派上所謂"二軍球員"的英超賽事
若沒有得到勝利 則Sir Alex總是會被大家責難說選錯陣容 為何不派上主力?
其實在這背後含著SAF對平時替補球員的期許跟信任
期望他們在有機會時也能獨當一面 為球隊贏球
記得我們02-03賽季時的英超冠軍就是這樣來的
替補球員在主力受傷時適時挺身而出
或就如同才剛踢完作客南安普頓的最後一場聯賽
大家一看到先發名單第一個反應都是要賑濟準備保級的南安普頓
可是或許是在Glazer事件後的反彈
所謂第二線球員們每個都很盡力表現 最終也贏球了
這才是一個職業球員應該做到的事吧!
也難怪每次輸了不該輸的球
一些前曼聯球員或教練總是說"Players let Sir Alex down."
希望Sir Alex能留在曼聯
委屈一點在Glazer底下做事 繼續我們改革的腳步!
