Ruud and Wes are Reds injury worries

Reds Must Wait On Ruud Fitness
Ruud van Nistelrooy is a doubt for United's game at Fulham on Monday night
with a calf injury, while Wes Brown has been ruled out with an Achilles injury.
Van Nistelrooy has not played since being substituted during United's 3-0
victory at West Brom two weeks ago.
In a season where United had been finding goals difficult to come by, Ruud's
record of 12 goals in 14 matches belies that theory - hence Ferguson's
protection of a striker he considers the best he has ever managed.
"We are just safeguarding against the injury Ruud has had at the bottom of
his calf," Ferguson told us on Friday. "It is one of these injuries that if
we don't deal with it now then it will just keep resurfacing.
"We'll see his progress in training on Friday and Saturday before making a
decision on Monday."
Wes Brown is a greater doubt for the game. The 25-year-old defender was part
of the shadow squad that travelled to Istanbul in midweek, but was forced off
injured in the second half of the 3-0 defeat to Fenerbahce.
"Wes came off with an Achilles injury," Ferguson confirmed. "That is one we
will just have to be careful about. I think he'll probably need a rest."
The trip to take on Fenerbahce afforded Ferguson the opportunity to rest key
players. Van Nistelrooy, Scholes, Keane, Giggs, Rooney, Ferdinand, Gary
Neville, Heinze, Smith and Silvestre all remained in Manchester.
"It was great for them," said Sir Alex. "The opportunity we had to include the
younger players was too good to miss. If the group had been any different in
terms of Uefa Cup places for Fenerbahce and Sparta Prague then we would have
taken a different team.
"You have to respect your opposition. If the opportunity had been there for
Sparta Prague to make the Uefa Cup, then we would have helped it by playing
a more experienced team.
"Fenerbahce were confirmed as making the Uefa Cup and so the opportunity was
too good for us to miss.
"There was no need for me to play all my players. I may need to use some of
the players that played on Wednesday night in February. So it was good
experience for them."
