MATCH PREVIEW
- Only 30 miles separate Manchester and Liverpool, but these two clubs will
never be close. The biggest grudge match in English football is always a
potential powder keg, and with both sides looking for the spark that will
ignite their seasons, Sunday's clash promises to be an explosive encounter.
- United go into the game on the back of a frustrating goalless draw with
Rangers in the Champions League, and already trail Chelsea by four points
in the Premier League after throwing away leads at Fulham and Everton.
- Sir Alex Ferguson's selection policy has been called into question this week,
and the United boss will be relieved by Rio Ferdinand's return to fitness.
Wayne Rooney will also play, but can expect little sympathy from the
travelling Liverpool fans following the recent problems in his private life.
- Criticism of Liverpool's start to the season is starting to intensify, and
Roy Hodgson admits he does not know how long it will take before his methods
start to bear fruit. Hodgson rested several key players for the 4-1 Europa
League win over Steaua Bucharest and will be hoping to reap the benefits at
Old Trafford.
- The form of Fernando Torres remains a major concern, with his shot-shy
performance against Birmingham sparking a media debate about the striker's
state of mind. But United defender Nemanja Vidic will not need reminding of
the Spaniard's talents, and Torres will relish the opportunity to kick-start
the Reds' season against their fiercest rivals.

Lawro's predictions Man Utd 0-0 Liverpool
Manchester United have drawn the last three of their four games, conceding
late goals in a couple of them and that will drive them mad.
They are obviously looking for a little bit of form but I think striker
Dimitar Berbatov will return after sitting out the Champions League match
against Rangers and he is playing well for them so far this season.
Losing Antonio Valencia is a massive blow for United. I thought he settled in
very well last season and was the most naturally gifted right- sided winger
they have.
Liverpool will make themselves difficult to beat and if you offered Roy
Hodgson a point now, he'd probably take it.
I think it will be a tight game and because of how both teams are playing
right now I'm going for a scoreless draw.
