MATCH PREVIEW
- Manchester United make the short journey to Blackpool where these sides meet
for the first time in nearly 36 years.
- When this game was originally scheduled, Sir Alex Ferguson's side had just
smashed seven past Blackburn, and Ian Holloway would have been forgiven for
counting his blessings that December's freezing conditions had spared his
side from facing United in red-hot form.
- Six weeks on and Holloway must be cursing his luck. The Premier League
leaders arrive in town with their unbeaten run now standing at a remarkable
27 top-flight fixtures, and off the back of arguably their most complete
performance of the season having torn Birmingham apart at Old Trafford on
Saturday.
- Blackpool, on the other hand, are enduring their worst run of form in what
has been an otherwise terrific debut season in the Premier League. The
Tangerines have lost four of their last five matches and stand just seven
points above bottom-of-the-table West Ham.
- The last time Bloomfield Road hosted United was in 1974 but you have to go
back to 1963 for the Seasiders' last league victory over the Manchester club,
who have won eight of the previous 10 meetings between the sides.
MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
‧ These sides have not met since the 1974/75 season, when they were both in
the second tier. Manchester United beat Blackpool 4-0 at home and 3-0 away
en route to winning the championship, and promotion back to the top flight.
‧ Their last top-flight clashes came in the 1970/71 campaign. Both games
finished 1-1.
Blackpool
‧ Blackpool have lost four of their last five league games - and five of the
last six in all competitions.
‧ The Seasiders have scored and conceded in all of their home matches this
season.
‧ DJ Campbell has scored five goals in his last six Blackpool appearances.
Manchester United
‧ Unbeaten United are four points down on Arsenal's 'invincible' squad of
2003/04. United have 13 wins and nine draws from 22 games, compared with
the Gunners' 15 wins and seven draws.
‧ Manchester United have now gone 27 Premier League matches without losing,
only two matches short of their record 29 undefeated top-flight matches
between December 1998 and October 1999.
‧ They have won only two of their 10 Premier League away matches this season
- at Stoke in October and at West Brom on New Year's Day.
‧ Dimitar Berbatov's has now scored 17 league goals this season - his
best-ever return in a Premier League season.
‧ If selected, Wayne Rooney will make his 300th appearance for the club.
