Cardiff line up Man Utd's Smith

Manchester United have accepted an offer from Cardiff City to take England
striker Alan Smith on loan, BBC Sport Wales has learned.
But a deal depends on the 26-year-old agreeing terms with the Bluebirds.

Smith broke an ankle against Liverpool in February and has not played
regularly since returning.

Cardiff, who top the Championship, need cover as first-choice striker Steve
Thompson will be out for most of November with an Achilles injury.

The move is thought to have been instigated by Cardiff chairman Peter
Ridsdale, formerly Smith's chairman at Leeds.

In his time at Leeds, Smith was sent off against Cardiff for elbowing Andy
Legg in the Bluebirds' famous 2-1 FA Cup win at Ninian Park in January 2002.

Smith is in need of regular football, but since returning to fitness in
August he has struggled to force his way into Ferguson's thinking.

He was substituted after 60 minutes in the shock Carling Cup defeat to
Southend on Tuesday.

Alan uncertain over loan deal

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Cardiff City's interest in taking Alan
Smith on loan - and says the decision on whether it goes ahead rests with
the player.

The manager fielded questions on the story in his weekly press conference
at Carrington.

"Cardiff rang us yesterday about a short-term loan deal," affirmed Sir Alex.

"I looked at it, and thought it would be a good idea."

Sir Alex said the timing of the call had some bearing on his thought
process, coming just two days after United had been knocked out of the
Carling Cup - a competition in which Smith was regaining some vital match
fitness.

"I put it to Alan and he spoke to someone at Cardiff," the manager added.
"But he's uncertain about what to do."

When asked about the impact such a move would have on United's attacking
options, the boss responded: "There is a bit of a risk. But we feel he
needs competitive games."

    根據威爾士BBC報道，曼聯主帥弗格森已經答應英冠領頭羊卡迪夫城的請求，將英格
蘭國腳阿蘭-史密斯租借到該隊。卡迪夫目前在英冠中佔據第一，他們目前正在等待史密
斯本人的答覆。


    史密斯在今年二月與利物浦的足總杯比賽中腳踝重傷後，雖然復出時間比預期早，
但表現未如理想，本賽季至今只有四次代表紅魔上陣的記錄。雖然去卡迪夫意味著降一
級，但這將增加他的比賽機會，幫助他恢復體能。


    卡迪夫城新聞發言人表示：「我們已經向曼聯發出申請，弗格森爵士也已經應允這
次租借，現在就看史密斯的決定了。」


    此前，史密斯才表示要學習曾經受傷兩年的索爾斯克亞的精神。在復出後的四場比
賽中，史密斯在本菲卡的光明球場上陣9分鐘，在歐冠對哥本哈根時踢了半小時，隨後在
聯賽杯淘汰克魯的戰役裡踢滿120分鐘，但在上一場聯賽杯中，史密斯目睹球隊被英冠墊
底隊伍紹恩聯淘汰，自己則只打了半場就被換下。


    阿蘭的進展似乎到了瓶頸階段，不少曼聯球迷在網頁上發表看法，對他的狀態表示
擔憂。不過，專家則奉勸他要保持耐心。前利物浦左後衛貝格林(Jim Beglin)20年前受
過與史密斯幾乎一樣的傷，目前他是歐洲數字電視台評論員，他認為史密斯的情況並不
那麼糟糕。


    「我從來不擔心阿蘭，他的恢復已經是奇跡，能夠打出現在的水平已經很不尋常了
。但在前進過程中，你總會遇到一段緩慢期。你可能很快到達某個階段，然後發現最後
幾個百分點需要時間，他需要的只是耐心。他肯定會回到最好的狀態，或遲或早，但一
定會出現，我確信。」


    貝格林繼續分析道：「我並不瞭解他個人，但我看得出他很有決心和性格，態度很
正確。他是個偉大的職業球員，他會接受建議，選擇最好的途徑。當然，他將發現最後
這段路很艱難。尤其是面對那些衝著你的傷處來的鏟斷時，我當年復出後一直很小心，
但在你不注意的時候，可能又會受傷。」


    貝格林很不幸，他在復出後一場預備隊比賽中舊患又受新打擊，而且由於一隻腳受
傷後，另一隻腳的負擔過重，他最終不得不提前退役。不過，他認為史密斯不會像自己
這樣，但前利茲球星又另外的大挑戰：「阿蘭比較幸運，他的恢復很快，不像我那樣需
要兩次遠離球場那麼久。但薩哈在鋒線上表現很好，而中場又有了卡裡克，所以阿蘭的
挑戰同樣很嚴峻。不過，目前最重要的是度過恢復的最後階段。這需要時間，我祝福阿
蘭能盡快康復，我確信他能成功，他需要的只是耐心。」


    出租史密斯對他本人沒有壞處，但對曼聯來說則是冒險。因為目前弗格森陣中只有
薩哈、魯尼和索爾斯克亞三個前鋒，另一鋒線小將羅西也租借去了紐卡斯爾。一旦出現
意外，恐怕只能用斯科爾斯、吉格斯和C-羅納爾多客串鋒線。

Leeds have joined Cardiff in the chase to secure Manchester United striker
Alan Smith on loan. 

United have already accepted an offer from Cardiff but Smith's former club
have now expressed an interest.

"We have only just found out about his availability, but there's a
possibility of a deal," said Leeds boss Wise.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed: "The fact we are no longer in
the Carling Cup, I thought a short term loan would be ideal for him."
