Reds intent on keeping stars

Assistant manager Carlos Queiroz insists United will not be losing their
best players this close season.
A number of United's top stars - including Cristiano Ronaldo and Gabriel
Heinze - have been strongly linked with moves in recent weeks, but Queiroz
insists the Old Trafford backroom staff are remaining calm amid the media
frenzy.
"I think everybody knows during this period of the season, the press
have some speculations, but we keep cool," he told Sky Sports News.
"What is important is what the players and the club are doing to be sure,
next season, those players [Ronaldo and Heinze] will be part of our family.
"We are doing something to improve the team, doing that all the time,
regarding the players from last season, we are not ready to lose our
best players."
Queiroz was speaking just before United flew out to start their tour of
South Africa, a trip which provides some of the Club's younger players
with a chance to stake a claim for more first-team involvement.
Carlos admitted: "We are doing our best to improve all the time. Not only
buying players but also promoting players. In this tour, it's a great
opportunity to assess those young players but, in all areas of the club,
we are always working hard to improve the club and the outcome of our work.
"What is important now is to be sure everybody, the team and the squad,
everybody is ready to start the new season.
"The squad is a compromise. It's part of our preparation with some young
players but it's important we represent Manchester.
"We need to honour the name of our club. It's an opportunity to assess the
young players, see what we can expect from them during the season."

就在外界這些天紛紛傳言由於小小羅和范尼也許會相繼離隊，曼聯下賽季極可能面
臨人才短缺的處境時，曼聯主帥弗格森的副手奎羅斯卻斷然否認了這種說法。奎羅斯明
確表示，在今年夏天的轉會市場上，曼聯的計劃是增加新人而不是賣掉舊人，總而言之
，曼聯希望只進不出以便進一步增強球隊實力，新賽季和衛冕冠軍切爾西再決高下。
奎羅斯說，在世界盃期間被媒體炒作的小小羅可能轉投皇馬的消息純屬傳聞，小小
羅仍然是曼聯大家庭中的一員。由於在英格蘭和葡萄牙的四分之一決賽當中小小羅與被
罰下的曼聯金童魯尼結下樑子，小小羅擔心回到曼聯之後會受到球迷的攻擊，為了安撫
小小羅，弗格森特意讓同樣是葡萄牙人的奎羅斯隨時與小小羅保持聯繫，這樣至少在小
小羅在葡萄牙休假這段時間裡奎羅斯能夠定期掌握小小羅的動向，勸他下賽季繼續為曼
聯效力。
奎羅斯還稱，另一名曼聯主力，阿根廷左後衛海因策雖然吸引了包括皇馬和巴塞羅
那等大牌俱樂部的視線，但也不會在下賽季離隊。此前有消息稱，皇馬新帥卡佩羅看中
了海因策，想用1000萬英鎊將他收至帳下。
奎羅斯表示：「我們會在今夏的轉會市場上買入球員來增強球隊的實力，至於隊中
現有的主力球員，我們是一個也不會放走的。」
曼聯隊中的老將吉格斯也認為，考慮到切爾西新賽季「兵強馬壯」，尤其是德國中
場巴拉克和烏克蘭核彈頭捨甫琴柯相繼加盟，藍軍的中前場實力會大大增強，曼聯如果
再不買新人將很難追上切爾西。事實上，自從02到03賽季之後，曾奪得過8次聯賽冠軍的
曼聯還從未嘗過英超冠軍的滋味。
