Van der Sar staying focused

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is determined not to be
sidetracked by talk about his future.
Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently confirmed his intention to
offer a one-year contract extension to the Dutchman, whose current deal
expires next summer.
Van der Sar has yet to formally receive the offer, but is staying focused
on maintaining the high level of performances United fans became accustomed
to last season.
"I currently have a contract until 2007 - and while I saw some stories about
an extension, I have not spoken to anyone about it," said the 35-year-old.
"All I can do is perform the same way I did last season.
"If I do that I will be happy, and my manager will be happy as well."
Van der Sar revealed this week that he would prolong his international
career, after taking time out to consider his future in the wake of
Holland's World Cup disappointment.
Explaining his decision, van der Sar declared that his appetite for the
game was too strong for him to stop just yet.
"The first week after the World Cup was hard, because I was carrying over
a lot of feelings from what happened in Germany, and the disappointment is
always a little bit more acute when you are captain," he reflected.
"But then I went on holiday, spoke to a few people and started training
again.
"It doesn't take long to get the feeling back that you want to carry on
doing the thing you love most of all, which is playing football.
"That is why I have decided to carry on."

荷蘭門將范德薩已經拒絕了曼聯為他提供的新合同，這位昔日阿賈克斯和尤文圖斯
的鋼鐵門神表示，除非能夠繼續表現出在老特拉福德第一個賽季的狀態，他才會考慮繼
續留在曼聯。
去年加盟曼聯時，范德薩簽訂的是一份兩年的合同，在不久前紅魔出訪南非的過程
中，弗格森已經明確表示希望與范德薩續約一年。然而，范德薩卻有不同看法，這位極
有責任心的35歲老將認為，需要看自己下賽季能否延續去年的出色演出，再決定是否留
在這裡繼續發展。
范德薩解釋道：「我現在的合同是到2007年，雖然我看到不少報道說我會續約，但
我還沒有和任何人談過這件事。我現在只想能保持與上個賽季同樣的狀態，如果我能成
功，我會很高興，我想我的教練也會很高興。」
曾效力阿賈克斯的范德薩本周回到了成名的地方，而他也確認將延續荷蘭國家隊生
涯，將效力至2008年歐錦賽。「世界盃後的第一個星期是最困難的，因為我仍然為在德
國發生的一切而痛苦，尤其是作為球隊隊長，會比其他人更加失望。但經過後來的假期
，以及和其他人的交談，在重新開始訓練後，我很快就恢復過來。我希望繼續從事自己
最喜愛的事情，就是踢球，這也是我為什麼選擇繼續的原因。」
弗格森現在也已經開始為范德薩物色接班人，他本希望引進西布朗的波蘭門將庫茨
扎克，但250萬鎊的出價遭到拒絕。不過，弗格森希望到2008年時，庫茨扎克、或者下賽
季將被出租到埃弗頓的美國人霍華德、又或者上賽季租借到沃特福德表現神勇的年輕門
將福斯特能夠成長為合格的門將。
