United's promising start to the season saw the Reds do the double in
August, with Sir Alex Ferguson being named Barclays Manager of the Month
and Ryan Giggs receiving the player award.
Sir Alex expressed his desire for United to begin the campaign positively,
and his players responded with three victories, winning 5-1 against Fulham,
3-0 at Charlton and 2-1 against Watford.
Giggs has been instrumental in all three matches, particularly in the
absence of Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes against Charlton and Watford,
where he scored the winning goal.
The Welshman will be 33 in November, but, amazingly, it is the first time
he has won the award in his 15-year United career. In stark contrast, this
is the 17th time Sir Alex has won the Manager of the Month award.
The accolades are voted for by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes
representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and fans.

"The awards are testimony to the fantastic manner in which United have
opened the new campaign, playing an exciting brand of fast and attacking
football," said Jim Hytner, from the Barclays Awards Panel.
"It's hard to believe Giggs has never received the accolade before, but he
thoroughly deserves the award for the performances he's put in during
August."

9月8日，英超官方公佈了8月份的英超雙最佳，曼聯隊成為最大贏家，主教練弗格森
榮膺最佳主帥，吉格斯當選最佳球員。
在前三輪的英超比賽中，曼聯取得了全勝，並且打進了10個進球。弗格森率領球隊
5比1大勝富勒姆，3比0擊敗查爾頓，2比1取勝沃特福德，是唯一一支前三輪拿滿9分的隊
伍。這也是弗格森教練生涯中獲得的第17個英超月度最佳教練頭銜。
令人吃驚的是，雖然吉格斯已經為曼聯效力了15年，出場超過了600次，但這竟然是
他職業生涯中第一次被評為月度最佳球員。在2比1擊敗沃特福德的比賽中，吉格斯打進
了致勝進球，而且在前三輪中多次為隊友創造了進球機會。
這一獎項的評審小組代表吉姆-亨特說：「弗格森和吉格斯的獲獎，反映了曼聯在新
賽季初期的強勁勢頭，而且他們踢的是快速和令人興奮的進攻足球。吉格斯以前從未獲
