Hargreaves to join United this week

Owen Hargreaves is almost 100 percent certain to become a Manchester United
player this week, Setanta Sports understands.

The Old Trafford club were on the verge of landing the England midfielder
last week until Bayern Munich tested their resolve by bumping up the player's
price from Stg14 million to almost Stg20 million.

The Bavarian side are well aware that they hold all virtually all the trump
cards at the negotiating table after the player inked a new deal to tie him
to the club just last October.

United, though, should get their man due to the player's own resolve to
secure a Premiership move - but both the player and the Old Trafford club
still need agreement from Bayern and the Germans are rightly playing hardball.

Setanta Sports understands that it is now likely, however, that Bayern will
let the player leave for Stg17m this week in a bid to bring an end to the
ugly situation. The German champions were desperate to hold on to the player,
but the loss will be soothed by the higher-than-expected fee.

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness said on Saturday: "Owen stays - you
can bet your house on that. Manchester United will have to plan without him."

But following the arrival of Mark van Bommel at the club, Hargreaves' likely d
eparture has already been planned for.

The Dutchman even let slip at his unveiling: "The chances of playing are so
much bigger (than at Barcelona), they told me, with Michael Ballack gone and
Owen Hargreaves close to leaving the club."
