Ferguson reveals failed Senna bid
Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he failed in an 11th-hour bid to resurrect a
move for Villareal midfielder Marcos Senna on transfer deadline day.
Ferguson put interest in the 30-year-old on hold while he chased England
midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
That decision backfired as Bayern Munich refused to sell and Villarreal
rejected an improved offer for Senna.
Ferguson told United Review: "We made another late bid for Marcos Senna, but
you cannot force clubs to sell."
Despite his failure to land either midfielder, and with ￡18.5m Michael Carrick
the only summer addition, Ferguson insists his squad is in healthy shape for
an assault on domestic and European honours.
Ferguson added: "We did work very hard on trying to bring Owen Hargreaves to
Old Trafford, right up to the day the transfer window closed.
"Similarly, we made another late bid for Marcos Senna," said Ferguson who has
seen his side open their Premiership campaign with four straight wins and his
upbeat about his side's prospects despite failing to land either player.
"Some of you may not share my confidence, especially if you were expecting
more from the transfer market this summer. But I am not dissatisfied with my
squad.
"You always seek to add to your options but we have a good squad well equipped
to make a serious challenge on all fronts.
"You can see that from our recent league performances and I believe it will
take something strange to stop us qualifying from our Champions League group
this time."

今年夏天，弗格森僅僅為曼聯增添了卡裡克和庫茨扎克兩員新兵，相比以前的大肆
招兵買馬，紅魔似乎沒有了往日的豪氣。其實並非弗格森囊中羞澀，而是這位爵士比以
前更加務實，只買對的不買貴的也許是近年曼聯引援計劃最好的寫照。在得知無法在轉
會限期前得到哈格裡夫斯後，弗爵士似乎索性什麼都不要了。其實並非如此，還有一個
「對的」球員弗格森很想招致麾下，他就馬科斯-塞納。
作為西班牙國腳，塞納也是弗格森夏天心儀的球員之一，他甚至在哈格裡夫斯之前
就已經早早被弗帥欽點了。然而由於同時引入兩人有些重複浪費，加上曼聯俱樂部的新
贊助商AIG公司要求必須購買英格蘭本土的天才球員，弗格森不得不優先考慮哈格裡夫
斯，而塞納只能淪為英格蘭人的替代品。
但由於拜仁方面遲遲不肯放人，曼聯即使一直等到轉會截止，最終還是不得不放棄
。然而，與拜仁的拉鋸也使紅魔怠慢了與塞納的簽約談判，最終導致曼聯與比利亞雷亞
爾的談判也是不歡而終，弗格森最終是一個也沒得到。對此，弗格森表示：「我們一直
努力把哈格裡夫斯引到老特拉福德，直到轉會市場關閉前我們都沒有放棄。同樣的，我
們也向比利亞雷亞爾求購馬科斯－塞納，我們總不可能強迫他們把球員賣給我們，所以
我們只好以我們已有的陣容開始我們的新賽季。」
如今哈格裡夫斯登陸老特拉福德基本已無望，弗格森自然把目光重新放到馬科斯－
塞納身上，曼聯已經將這位西班牙人的名字放在未來球員採購單的第一位。塞納生於巴
西，憑借上賽季在比利亞雷亞爾的優異表現，他入選了西班牙國家隊。塞納在球隊中的
角色與馬克萊萊在切爾西非常相似，攔截凶悍，是一名強有力的後腰。在去年的冠軍杯
上，比利亞雷亞爾雖然在客場1比2負於國際米蘭，但塞納在球場上上演的那一幕「血染
的風采」已經讓不少球迷們瞬間喜愛上了這名鐵漢。
