MANCHESTER UNITED are chasing Portuguese wonderkid Nani — and hope to
sign him before Sporting Lisbon slap a ￡17.5million transfer clause in
his contract.

His current deal expires in June 2008 but Sporting are desperate to extend
it until 2010 or 2011 — and include a new proviso, stating he cannot be
sold for less than ￡17.5m during that period.
United have watched the player and talks are due to take place within the
next fortnight.
Sporting president Filipe Soares insists the teenager is not available,
and said: "Nani is not for sale today — and neither in the winter market."
Nani told Sport of the World: "If I leave at any time it would only be to go
to a superclub.
"I am young and very ambitious."

Sporting Lisbon are refusing to comment on renewed speculation linking
their starlet Nani with Manchester United.
Last week, Sporting president Soares Franco confirmed his club's stance
over the winger - insisting Nani was not for sale.
Weekend reports in England and Portugal again stated that United were
preparing to test Sporting's resolve over the Portuguese starlet.
"We are not speaking about any news," said a Sporting spokesman. "Nani
has a contract with us until June 2008."

Cristiano Ronaldo would welcome the arrival at Old Trafford of Sporting
Lisbon winger Nani, the highly-rated teenager being linked with a move to
United.
Ronaldo, who made the same move three years ago in 2003, favours a greater
Portuguese influence in Manchester. "I'd like to see Nani and more
Portuguese at United," Cristiano was quoted as saying.
But, if Sporting have their way, Nani will sign a new contract and remain
at Estadio Jose Alvalade. "We are not speaking about this," a spokesman
for the club said this week. "Nani has a contract with us until June 2008."
