Manchester United have allowed promising midfielder Ritchie Jones to join
Colchester United on an emergency loan deal.
The 20-year-old will be available for Saturday's Championship game with
Southampton when the one-month switch is ratified by the Football League
and the Football Association.
Jones started the 2-1 Carling Cup win over Crewe Alexandra in midweek but
has now moved to Layer Road to help solve U's boss Geraint Williams' injury
problems.
Although Jones' first team chances have been limited under Sir Alex
Ferguson he has impressed in cup games and was a key figure in the
Red Devils' reserve treble last season.
Now Williams is hoping the youngster can slip seamlessly into the U's
team in the short time he has at Layer Road.
"We've seen him play a number of times and he was a player who caught
our attention," said Williams.
"He's an athletic footballer who is comfortable on the ball and he will
fit in the way we want to play and he will be a good addition to the
squad."
Chief executive Marie Partner also explained the circumstances of Jones'
prospective arrival in Essex.
"We have signed Ritchie under the emergency loan regulations, in order to
cover us for the different injuries that were picked up in the match against
Coventry," Partner told the club's official website.
"Ritchie has signed for a period which also takes in the Southend United
and Hull City matches, which is the anticipated time frame for the existing
first team members to return to fitness."
