Aston Villa have signed United right-back Phil Bardsley on loan until
the end of the season.
The Salford-born defender interested a host of clubs in England after his
loan at Rangers ended at the turn of the year.
Sunderland boss Roy Keane was keen on taking the feisty full-back to the
Stadium of Light. But Bardsley has opted to join Martin O'Neill's side for
the remainder of the campaign.
Bardsley's involvement at Ibrox was limited after a high-profile disagreement
with former Gers chief Paul Le Guen, but the race for his loan capture
indicates how highly rated he remains.
Phil will not be able to make his senior bow against United this weekend at
Old Trafford due to Premier League rules, but is set to be involved in the
Villans' Reserve team fixture against Fulham on Tuesday night.
