Fergie hints at fresh Owen bid

Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted Manchester United will make a renewed bid to
sign Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves in the summer.
The Red Devils tried to bag the England international midfielder in January,
as they did last August, but were rebuffed in their approach.
The Canadian-born star is now staying at the Allianz Arena until the end of
the season and Ferguson believes the club were right to bid for the star.
"I think with Hargreaves, if we'd have got him, we'd be bringing in a young
English centre-midfield player," said Ferguson.
"You've got to remember Paul Scholes is 32. Although I think Paul can play
for quite a time, you know.
"But none the less I think we're doing the right thing if we'd have got him,
we were doing the right thing in protecting our future. Unfortunately we
didn't get him."
When asked whether United would make a new move for Hargreaves at the end
of the season, Ferguson replied: "Maybe."
The experienced Scottish tactician is worried Ottmar Hitzfeld's return to
Bayern this month could have a negative impact on the club's chances of
bringing Hargreaves to England.
"Everyone's got their own ambition to improve their club, particularly when
a new manager comes they give him the support the lad needs," he continued.
"Because it's Ottmar Hitzfeld and he had a great experience with Bayern in
the past, they'll listen to him.
"That's an obvious worry for us. We don't know until we get down to talking
to them if that does happen."
