英格蘭和克羅地亞的比賽，第89分鐘，魯尼接到高球時，很有閒情逸致的在空中連墊
了三下後才將球停下，鏡頭也立刻對準了魯尼的臉，魯尼的滿臉笑容透露出一個爽字，英
格蘭的四個進球全部都同他有關，他在這場比賽中發揮的作用不比沃爾科特差。
第一個進球，正是魯尼積極的插上，才造成緊急從左後衛位置上補到中路的普拉尼奇
倉促下用自己不擅長的右腳解圍失誤，給了沃爾科特單刀的機會。第二個進球，魯尼抓住
對方中後衛下場禁區內少人的機會，禁區前沿在無人盯防的情況下沒有射門而是傳給了位
置更好的沃爾科特破門。
第三個進球，這對於魯尼是最簡單不過的事情，在點球點附近沒有人防守，能從容調
整的情況下再射不進，那他就不是一名前鋒了。第四個進球，則是四個進球中最體現魯尼
個人能力的，特裡後場長傳，魯尼中前場停球、轉身加擺脫一氣呵成，眼睛的餘光看見了
從右側高速內切的沃爾科特，輕巧地一推恰到好處。沃爾科特是表現出色，但他的三個進
球都是在空位完成射門，而魯尼不僅有進球，更是擔負起了大部分傳球組織的任務，除了
以上兩次助攻外，上半場魯尼有過一次左路到右路大範圍的轉移，沃爾科特橫敲到門前險
些造成點球，從球隊的整體運作上，魯尼更重要。
令人有些發笑的是，在賽前還有英格蘭媒體質疑魯尼，如《每日電訊報》記者溫特就
稱：卡佩羅是否該在對陣克羅地亞的關鍵戰中重用赫斯基拿下魯尼而不是迪福，但事實打
了質疑者們一個大耳光。
質疑魯尼首發的主要是因為他的進球能力，在4年來英格蘭的正式比賽中，加上今天
這場魯尼總共只進了3個球，看起來作為一名前鋒完全不合格，魯尼在此前的卡氏英格蘭
也毫無收穫，而這一切主要是因為曼聯主教練弗格森四年來已經將魯尼改造成一名助攻型
前鋒，他的發揮需要有合適的隊友才行，有了合適的隊員，他的傳球跑動才能發揮出威力
。
現在的英格蘭缺少在禁區前沿能組織的人才，而且中場中路的幾名球員盤帶能力都不
行，不能把球順利帶到中場，沒有魯尼的回撤組織接應，英格蘭的進攻很難順利進行下去
。但魯尼在中前場組織作用越大，卻越能反映出英格蘭中場中路球員能力上的不足，魯尼
不是不想頂到前面，不想更靠近球門去破門，但他到了前面就很難接到球，大部分時間只
能是回撤接球，這不能不說是英格蘭的最大問題。
看到魯尼在國家隊中進球的，最開心的是弗格森，最擔心的是貝尼特斯，因為魯尼有
著一進球就停不了的習慣，利物浦的後衛們可要小心了。
