繼稍早前，
Scholes表示害怕被今年表現優異的Lampard取代，
現在輪到Butt也跳出來說話。
Butt雖然也擔心Lampard威脅到他在國家隊的位置，
畢竟Butt又渡過一個令人失望的賽季，
不過呢，
他認為第一戰的對手是在進功方面很拿手的法國隊，
所以英格蘭需要排出一個強調防守的陣型。
這時候，
與Lampard、Scholes、Gerrard風格不同的他，
理應適合在本場比賽得到先發上場的機會。

"Fortunately for me, Frank's biggest strength, and the same goes for
Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard, is going forward."
"I'm totally the opposite. I'm someone who sits and protects the back four."
