Wayne Rooney has apologised to his England team-mates over his actions in
the 1-0defeat to Spain. Roony, 19, fouled midfielder Joaquin in front of
the feferee and then pushed goalkeeper Iker Casillas into the stands before
being substituted. As he came off the field, he threw down the armband worn
in tribute to former England star Emlyn Hughes.
England boss Sven Goran Eriksson said: "I don't know why he was like that.
There was much hot temper out there."
Eriksson revealed he had spoken to the England striker on the return flight
to England. He added:"Wayne has to learn. I think it will prove to be good
for him, He will learn a lot from it.
"Sometimes we do forget he's just a boy and it was his first time in a
stadium like the Bernabeu. But he plays for a big club and will use his
temperament in the right way."
