5月26日，在英格蘭與白俄羅斯的熱身賽之後，埃裡克森的世界盃名單出現了變動
，由於第三守門員格林(Robert Green)在比賽中受傷，已經確認無法參加世界盃，因此
遞補名單中的利物浦門將卡森進入了23人名單，成為英格蘭隊新的第三門將，而曼聯小
將本-福斯特進入了遞補名單。
在消息公佈之前，23歲的福斯特正在度假，他不得不急匆匆的收拾行囊，趕到球隊
基地與英格蘭隊會合。根據傷情檢查，格林的腹股溝受傷，卡森頂替他成為第三門將，
這給了福斯特進入英格蘭隊的機會。
福斯特是在去年夏天從斯托克隊加盟曼聯的，他隨後被租借到了英冠的沃特福德隊
，在上賽季沃特福德成功衝入英超的歷程中，福斯特扮演了重要角色，他以主力門將的
身份幫助球隊衝超成功。在加盟曼聯前，福斯特就被視為英格蘭頗具希望的守門員，這
一次入選英格蘭隊對他是一種激勵。

United goalkeeper Ben Foster has been called up as a surprise standby for
England's World Cup squad.
Third-choice keeper Robert Green ruptured his groin in England B's defeat
to Belarus on Thursday, and has lost his squad place to Liverpool's Scott
Carson.
Foster's call-up makes him the third replacement on the standby list this
week; Phil Neville and Michael Dawson - ahead of Wes Brown - have already
stepped in for Nigel Reo-Coker and Luke Young respectively.
England boss Sven Goran Eriksson told the official FA website: "I've
been delighted with the reaction of Ben, who was on holiday when he
got the call but did not waste a second in joining up with us."
The Swede's faith in Foster caps an incredible year for the player.
Ben joined United from Stoke City in July 2005, before even making a
single first-team appearance at the Britannia Stadium, before being
quickly farmed out on loan to Watford.
He was a vital part of the Hornets' promotion to the Premiership, and
it remains to be seen if he will embark on another loan next term or
be Edwin van der Sar's understudy.
