Reds Stars Win World Cup Warm-Up Games
Three United defenders were celebrating on Tuesday night after helping
their countries to win World Cup warm-up matches.
Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville both started for England in their 3-1 win
over Hungary at Old Trafford, while Gabriel Heinze played 68 mins for
Argentina as they beat Angola 2-0.

Neville was replaced at half-time in the England game but Ferdinand
played the full match. Wayne Rooney missed out through injury, of course,
but he was still at OT to see the early second-half goals scored by Steven
Gerrard and John Terry - both were headers from David Beckham free-kicks.

Hungary pulled the score back to 2-1 through Pal Dardai's stunning
long-range shot, only for substitute Peter Crouch to net a third goal
for England six minutes from time.
Another of Sven Goran Eriksson's four subs made history when he came on
in the 65th minute; Theo Walcott became England's youngest-ever player
at 17 years and 75 days. The occasion was witnessed by 56,323 fans.
Tuesday's triumphs for England and Argentina completed a successful few
days for the United players warming up for the World Cup Finals. Seven
of the eight nations with Reds in their ranks recorded victories - Nemanja
Vidic's Serbia & Montenegro were the exceptions as they drew 1-1 with
Uruguay. Vida came on as sub in the second half.

Tim Howard played for 90 minutes as USA vainquished Venezuela 2-0 but
watched from the bench two days later as they overcame Latvia 1-0.

Cristiano Ronaldo started Portugal's 4-1 win over Cape Verde Islands
in Evora but came off in the 62nd minute, shortly after being shown
the game's solitary yellow card. Paris St.Germain striker Pauleta
bagged a hat-trick for the home side.

Ruud van Nistelrooy scored the only goal of Holland's 1-0 win over
Cameroon, a close-range strike in the 23rd minute. He was later
replaced by Feyenoord forward Dirk Kuyt but United goalkeeper Edwin
van der Sar completed the full match.
