Manchester United will be without Wayne Rooney when they entertain Benfica
in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Rooney serves the first game of a two-match ban for his red card against
Villarreal, but it is in defence where boss Sir Alex Ferguson is stretched.
Gary Neville and Gabriel Heinze are definite non-starters and John O'Shea
limped off against Blackburn.
If the Irish defender fails to prove his fitness Ferguson will be forced to
call on Phil Bardsley or Gerard Pique.
With Wes Brown, Quinton Fortune and Roy Keane injured, O'Shea's absence would
leave United no option but to call on one of the youngsters.
Park Ji-Sung is favoured to retain his place with Rooney sidelined, although
Ferguson also has the option of recalling Ryan Giggs.
