Manchester United will be without both Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney for the
Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow.

Patrice Evra, Park Ji-Sung and Darren Fletcher were also absent from the
squad flying out to Russia on Monday.

Dimitar Berbatov and Nemanja Vidic are still doubtful for the match but have
made the trip to the Russian capital.

 CSKA Moscow v United: Key battles 

IGOR AKINFEEV v MICHAEL OWEN

CKSA captain and goalkeeper Akinfeev, the current Russia number one, has the
task of keeping the United strike pair of Owen and Dimitar Berbatov out. The
23-year-old UEFA Cup winner became the youngest keeper to win a Russian
championship six years ago and has been linked with a move to the Reds.

In Wayne Rooney's absence, Owen will be looking to prove his sharpness ahead
of a possible start at former club Liverpool on Sunday.


MILOS KRASIC v MICHAEL CARRICK

Serbia midfielder Krasic, 24, has reportedly attracted interest from several
Premier League clubs and Real Madrid. A likely starter for his national side
at next year's World Cup.

Carrick, who regained his England place this month, is running back into form
and a key player in the United midfield.


GUILHERME v RIO FERDINAND

Brazilian forward loaned out by Dynamo Kiev following their recent signing of
Andriy Shevchenko. Small in stature but boasts impressive statistics with
almost a goal a game since moving to Europe in January.

Ferdinand is looking to get back into form after finding his recent
performances the subject of much scrutiny.


 Background 

‧ United are unbeaten in 13 away games in the UEFA Champions League but they
   are without a win in five matches against Russian clubs.

‧ Ramos faced United twice while manager of Tottenham Hotspur FC from
   October 2007 to October 2008, the first a 3-1 FA Cup fourth round defeat at
   Old Trafford in January 2008 and then a 1-1 league home draw the following
   month.

‧ United trio Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney were on the
   losing side at the Luzhniki Stadium with England in a UEFA EURO 2008
   qualifier against Russia on 17 October 2007. CSKA's Aleksei Berezutski,
   Vasili Berezutski and Sergei Ignashevich were in the Russia team that
   earned a 2-1 victory, despite Rooney hitting the opening goal.
