Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and Macau, which hope to host Manchester United,
should select new dates that do not clash with the July 7-29 Asia Cup
tournament of the Asian Football Confederation, FIFA president Sepp Blatter
said.
"It is legitimate to say you are welcome but please not at a time when we are
playing, according to an international calendar accepted by the whole football
family, our biggest competition in July here in Asia," Blatter said in a
speech to the AFC's annual congress.

AFC president Mohamed Bin Hammam said that Asian countries welcomed cooperation
with European clubs to share experience, noting that the AFC has cooperated
well with teams such as Chelsea.
However, he said some foreign clubs often "impose themselves on Asia without
any care or thought about our football."
"We have a very good example from Chelsea who have signed an agreement to
develop football at the grassroots in Asia, That is a good example," he said.
In March, Chelsea signed a deal with the AFC to provide financial and
technical support to mainly grassroots football clubs across China until 2010.

"Cancel your tour -- this is the message on behalf of the whole Asian
football family, all our players, our coaches," he said in response to AFP
questions on the sidelines of the Asian Football Confederation Congress here.

"We expect Manchester United to look for something more than money. Asia is
giving them so much money during the on-season. One month every four years
and they cannot spare it to not play in Asia?"

However, the Malaysian Prime Minister joined in the fray on Friday, telling
reporters the game would go ahead as scheduled.
"We want them to visit Malaysia because this year is Visit Malaysia Year...
if Manchester United play in Kuala Lumpur, there will be a lot of Manchester
United fans around this region, including from Singapore and Thailand,
coming here."
"We hope the organisers will not cancel the game. This is the wish of the
government as part of Visit Malaysia Year," he said.

The Hong Kong-based promoter of the United tour, which also includes matches
in Japan, South Korea and Macau, had expressed confidence the Malaysian part
of the programme would continue.
"All four legs will go ahead as planned," said Paul Kam, chairman of ProEvents
Management Ltd. "There is a lot of speculation going on, but everything will
be resolved soon."
