這是曼聯預備隊這賽季的第一場輸球,在最後10分鐘內被連趕二球,遭到逆轉~
Brian McClair’s Reserves slipped to their first defeat of the league season
after conceding two quickfire second-half goals at the Riverside Stadium.
United will feel aggrieved to return to Manchester without so much as a
point from an entertaining encounter between two of the FAPRL’s finest
sides.
Tom Craddock’s late penalty sealed the three points for the Teesiders,
four minutes after Danny Graham had equalised Ryan Shawcross’ opener for
United.
The real surprise of the evening was that it took until the second half
for United to draw first blood, after an exciting opening period.
Phil Marsh and Aaron Burns (twice) spurned decent openings as the Reds
dominated in terms of chances, and that theme continued after the break,
with Kieran Lee unfortunate not to earn a penalty after seeing his run
halted inside the box.
Marsh again came close with a long range drive before United finally
took a deserved lead, through the unlikely source of towering centre-back
Shawcross.
Lurking in what seemed an offside position but was subsequently proven
legal, Shawcross emphatically converted Jamie Mullan’s stabbed pass,
powering into the top corner via the crossbar.
The goal had a negative effect on the game from United’s point of view,
but seemed to spark the hosts into life.
Substitute Graham, a thorn in United’s side whenever he appears, popped up
to smash home a well-worked equaliser – the fourth game in a row against
United in which he has scored.
Four minutes later, in the dying stages of the game, Boro snatched the
points with a controversial penalty.
Craddock’s winding run took him into the United box, and his dramatic
fall after tangling with David Gray earned his side the spot-kick.
He duly converted and, despite deploying Shawcross as an emergency striker,
McClair’s side couldn’t claw themselves back into the game.
Boro move to the top of the FAPRL as a result, level on points with
third-placed United but with a superior goal difference.
Team:
Heaton, Gray, Shawcross, Cathcart, Lea, Rose, Lee, R. Jones, Mullan,
Marsh, Burns.
Subs: Amos, Fagan, Barnes, Brandy.
Goals:
66. min.: 0-1 Shawcross
80. min.: 1-1 Graham
83. min.: 2-1 Craddock (penalty)
