在 Manchester Senior Cup 曼聯擊敗同城死敵Man City
Burns下半場梅開二度, Lee攻入他在預備隊的第一球和Barnes則攻入曼聯的第二球
An Aaron Burns double helped United to a thrilling 4-2 victory over local
neighbours City in the Manchester Senior Cup on Thursday evening.
Kieran Lee and Michael Barnes were also on the scoresheet for the Reds who
were good value for their win in what was an entertaining game throughout.
Both teams began brightly and only some terrific goalkeeping at both ends
of the pitch kept the scoreline goalless.
City stopper Andreas Isaksson, who was making his first appearance in a
blue shirt since his summer transfer from Rennes, was the first to be
called into action when he saved well from Sam Hewson.
Reds' keeper Tom Heaton did even better soon after when he somehow managed
to claw away Daniel Sturridge's curling effort.
United went in front on the quarter hour mark thanks to Kieran Lee's first
goal for the Reserves. The 18-year-old rounded Isaksson and slotted the ball
home after a neat pass from Burns.
However, that was cancelled out by an Ashley Grimes goal on 33 minutes. A
long ball from Nathan D'Laryea caused confusion between Craig Cathcart and
Heaton in the United defence allowing Grimes the opportunity to toe-poke
the ball over the oncoming Reds' keeper and into the net.
Brian McClair's side regained the lead on the stroke of half-time thanks
to a superb strike from Michael Barnes. After Lee had won possession in
the left corner, he cut the ball back to Barnes who despatched
an unstoppable right-foot drive into the far corner.
The entertainment continued after the break and the hosts made it 3-1 five
minutes after the restart through Burns, who glanced a header past Isaksson
after an inviting cross from Barnes.
Grimes pulled one back for City on 57 minutes, but Burns restored the Reds'
two-goal advantage 13 minutes later. Substitute Febian Brandy's initial
shot was parried by Isaksson, but the rebound dropped to Burns who stroked
it home from close range.
The result preserves United's position at the top of the Senior Cup group;
they are now four points clear of nearest challengers Oldham after two wins
out of three.
United:
Heaton; Gray, Cathcart, Lea, Rose (c), Lee, Hewson, Ngalula (Brandy, 60),
Barnes; Marsh (Eikrem, 85), Burns (Fagan, 80).
Subs: Crockett (GK), Chester.
Goals: Lee, Barnes, Burns (*2)
