Despite a late charge by the Reds, Crewe managed to hang on to their lead
to claim all three points at Carrington.
Crewe took a 2-0 lead, before United pegged the visitors back to 2-1 with a
goal from winger Danny Welbeck.
But, the Alex then extended their advantage to 3-1 before another Welbeck
goal set up a late onslaught from the Reds.
Unfortunately for Paul McGuinness' side, Crewe managed to remain in front
thanks to a their goals from Byron Moore (2) and Nick Farquharson.
United:
Amos;
R.Eckersley, Chester (McCormack, 68), Cathcart, Cleverley;
Bryan (Derbyshire, 68), Drinkwater, Hewson, Welbeck;
