United's Under-18s nearly staged an impressive comeback against Barnsley at
the weekend after going three goals down at Oakwell.
The home side went 2-0 up with goals from Luke Waterfall and Jacob
Butterfield, before Michael Coulson made it 3-0 when he converted
from the penalty spot.
It looked all but over for Paul McGuinness' young side, which included
six schoolboys in the starting line-up. But the Reds rallied and two
goals in the last five minutes from Oliver Norwood and James Derbyshire
gave United hope of completing an incredible fightback.
The youngsters hit the bar late on, but Barnsley's three goal start
proved a gap too big to close.
The result continues a run of alternate victories and defeats in the last
six league games, including Saturday's result, against Middlesbrough
(won 2-0), Nottingham Forest (lost 2-1), Bolton (won 3-0), West Brom
(lost 3-2) and Everton (won 2-0).

second leg against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday 2 April (KO 19:30 GMT),
