本週一，英格蘭最重要的一項傳統青年隊比賽——青年足總杯在利物浦的安菲爾德
球場進行了首回合較量。作客的曼聯U18青年隊繼在上輪逆轉阿森納後，這次同樣在先落
後一球的情況下2比1勝利物浦，在兩回合制的比賽中佔據了絕對的先機。利物浦球員林
德菲爾德首開記錄，不過紅軍後衛羅比-特雷法爾烏龍讓曼聯扳平，胡森的點球讓曼聯完
成逆轉。
利物浦是上屆青年足總杯得主，本賽季也輕鬆地率先入決賽，他們的經驗更加豐富
。而曼聯青年隊則更多是第一年進入球隊的學徒球員和學生，隊長卡斯卡特更已經上調
一隊，中場球員山姆-胡森接過了隊長袖標。
雙方都大打攻勢足球，比賽頗具可觀性。主力中衛卡斯卡特不在，讓曼聯的防守陷
入被動，不過，他們卻通過快速反擊，中場丹尼-維爾貝克中場前插，將球餵給射手費比
安-布蘭迪，可惜隊友的射門偏出。第15分鐘，主隊利物浦取得領先，雷普特裡爾左路傳
中，克雷格-林德菲爾德頭球頂破曼聯門將齊勒的十指關，比分變成利物浦1-0領先曼聯。
隨後利物浦依靠經驗，掌握控球權控制中場，可惜沒能打入第二球。第30分鐘，曼
聯另一位前鋒克裡斯-法甘發動一次出色的進攻，分給左路的維爾貝克，後者帶球前進並
且回傳法甘，可惜法甘的低射杯利物浦門將馬丁-漢森撲住。上半場以利物浦1-0領先結
束。
曼聯U18展示了與一線隊一樣的後勁，半場休息完之後5分鐘，在第50分鐘，蘇格蘭
邊鋒丹尼-加爾佈雷斯傳中，利物浦後衛羅比-特雷爾法爾試圖頭球解圍，卻將皮球蹭進
了自家大門，比分變成1-1平局。
第75分鐘，曼聯黑人前鋒布蘭迪突破入禁區，在他起腳瞬間，利物浦隊長斯皮爾林
封堵時踢中了布蘭迪的腳踝，裁判判罰點球。曼聯中場、隊長胡森主罰打入頂角，利物
浦門將漢森撲錯方向，曼聯2-1反超。
隨後利物浦大舉反擊希望扳平，但曼聯的防守沒有給紅軍機會。雙方第二回合將在
下週四於老特拉福德球場進行，如果曼聯能維持優勢，將是俱樂部歷史上第10次奪取青
年足總杯，這將是新的奪標記錄。

United earned an impressive and invaluable win over Liverpool in the FA
Youth Cup final first leg on Monday after coming from a goal down at
Anfield.
Reds skipper Sam Hewson scored the winner from the spot after an own goal
from Liverpool defender Robbie Threlfall drew United level following the
home side’s early lead.
It was an extremely entertaining game with both teams endeavouring to play
exciting, attacking football. But it was United's superior second half
display that edged Paul McGuinness' side in front in the tie, with the
return leg at Old Trafford on Thursday 26 April.
Hewson had taken the captain's armband in the absence of Craig Cathcart -
the 18-year-old Northern Ireland defender was withdrawn from the squad as
he is likely to be involved in the first team's clash with Sheffield United
on Tuesday.
It was a blow as Liverpool, the current Youth Cup holders, have a more
experienced team, with several players regulars in the Reserves at Anfield.
United’s team on the other hand contains a number of schoolboys and
first-year Academy scholars.
The Reds carved out the first real chance of the match inside ten minutes
through a rapid counter attack. Danny Welbeck burst forward from midfield
before feeding a pass through to Febian Brandy. The Reds striker's shot
went wide, but the move showed early promise.
However, the home side took the lead after 15 minutes following good work
and a precision cross from Ray Putterill on the left wing, which allowed
Craig Lindfield to head past Ron-Robert Zieler from close range to make it
1-0.
Liverpool's experience showed as they kept possession well in midfield and
went in search of a second, but United still looked dangerous on the break.
After half an hour Chris Fagan started a fine United move, finding the
lively Welbeck on the left flank. The United winger surged forward before
returning the ball to Fagan, whose low shot forced a good save from
goalkeeper Martin Hansen.
It was a much stronger end to the half for United, and the momentum
carried McGuinness' side forward after the break as the Reds put Liverpool
under sustained pressure. An equaliser duly arrived after 50 minutes when
Scottish winger Danny Galbraith whipped in a dangerous cross, forcing
Liverpool defender Robbie Threlfall to try and head clear the danger,
but he could only deflect the ball into his own goal.
In the 75th minute United claimed the lead after Brandy jinked his way into
the penalty area. As he shaped to shoot, Liverpool captain Jay Spearing
clipped the striker's heels, giving Hewson that chance to seal the win.
The United skipper stepped up to despatch the penalty with great calmness
and assurance in front of The Kop, sending Hansen the wrong way as his
precision spot-kick nestled in the corner of the net.
Liverpool hunted for an equaliser late in the game but the Reds held on to
make it advantage United heading into next Thursday's second leg clash.
