Gerard Pique and Giuseppe Rossi have got more in common than
being born just a day apart.
The two 18-year-olds are not only great friends,
they are great prospects who, in just over a year,
have done more than enough to suggest they have what it takes
to excel on the Old Trafford stage...
Looking back over your first year at the club, have you achieved
all the targets you set yourselves when you arrived here?
Rossi: I've certainly learnt a lot over the last twelve months
and training and playing with the senior players has been
a great experience. It's always been my dream to become
a top professional footballer and although I'm still at the
beginning of my career, being at United is the way to get there.
I need to keep working hard and hopefully I can get
some more chances in the first team.
Pique: When I first joined United I didn't set myself any particular
targets. My main aim was to get into the first team whenever I could,
no matter whether it was two or three years down the line.
At the moment I think we're both doing well and we're on our way
towards the first team. If things keep going like this
I think we're in a great position to stay in the squad.
What did you both make of your Premiership debuts at Sunderland
and Giuseppe how did it feel to mark your debut with a goal?
Rossi: I've been dreaming about playing in the Premiership for a long time
and to score on my debut is something that I'll never forget.
I don't remember much about the goal itself; my most vivid memory
is of everyone jumping on top of me afterwards!
It was such a special moment and I was just really happy to share
it with the other players.
Pique: It was a great day for me because playing in the Premiership
has always been my dream. You can't put into words how it feels
when you step onto the pitch; not a lot of people get the chance
to do that and it's a great privilege to have that opportunity.
I have to thank Giuseppe for making sure I made my Premiership debut!
I was getting ready to come on when we 2-0 up but when Sunderland
scored the boss told me I probably wouldn't be going on
because the game was too tight. But when Giuseppe got his goal
it meant I was able to come on and I celebrated like crazy
with Ruud on the bench!
Rossi: Yeah, I heard Ruud wanted to come onto the pitch to celebrate
when I scored...
Pique: Oh he did but the fourth official had to stop him going on
otherwise he would have got booked!
Which players have you learnt the most from and have any of the first team
given you any guidance in dealing with things on and off the pitch?
Rossi: I think you always look up to the players who play in your position,
so for me, Ruud van Nistelrooy is the one I look to.
He's one of the best goalscorers in the world and I'm learning
things from him all the time. I just want to do what he does
and hopefully one day I can follow in his footsteps.
Pique: It's the same for me with the likes of Rio, Mikael, Wes and Sheasy.
They always try to help me particularly Wes and Sheasy
who both came up through the ranks at United. All the players
have a lot of experience and they teach you how to handle
certain situations which, as a young player, is very important.
They look after you because they want you to become as good as they are.
What's it like to train and play with Rooney and Ronaldo; do the pair act
as an inspiration to you both?
Rossi: I believe they are the best young players in the world
and they have everything in their game to ensure they become
the best players in the world in a few years time.
Like us they are still young but the difference with them
is they have a lot of experience; at the moment we do not have
that experience. We watch them live their lives everyday
and we try to observe what they do so we can follow their example.
Pique: It's difficult to believe they are only a little bit older than us.
The quality and skills they possess are unbelievable
and sometimes in training we can't understand how Cristiano
is able to do some of his tricks! I think they are improving
everyday and it won't be long before they become the world's
best players.
Describe each other's best attributes...
[A big grin spreads across both players' faces!]
Rossi: Gerard is a very strong defender who wins virtually everything
in the air. He's very calm on the ball and you know that
when you pass the ball to him he rarely gives it away.
Overall, all of us have great confidence in him.
Pique: To be honest it's difficult to think of one for Giuseppe!
Seriously though he continues to impress me and you know that
wherever he strikes the ball from there's always a good chance
he'll score. His goal against Sunderland is a prime example of that.
Rossi: Oh thanks Gerard.
Finally, what targets have you set yourselves for the remainder of the season?
Rossi: My main aim is to continue playing with the first team
and perhaps get a few more games under my belt. I'm going to
keep working hard in training because that's where it all starts;
doing well in training helps your chances of playing
in the first team and hopefully I can get a few more goals as well.
Pique: Like Giuseppe, I just want to keep showing the other players
I'm capable of playing with them. It's also very important
to enjoy your football because if you enjoy it, you definitely
play better. We are very lucky to be doing what we doing;
most people have to work to earn a living and don't always like
what they do, whereas we work in a job that we love.
That's something you can't buy so it's important to enjoy it
and do your best.

回顧你們加入對的第一年，你們有達成剛加入球隊時所設定的目標嗎?
Rossi:我在過去12個月確實學到很多，與較年長的球員訓練和玩樂都是非常好的經驗。
我一直都希望當一個職業足球員，雖然我的事業才剛開始，但加入曼聯是我達成夢想的
方法，我需要繼續努力，希望我可以多得到一些在一隊的機會。
Pique:當我剛加入曼聯的時候，我沒有為我自己設定任何特定目標。我主要的目標就是
只要有機會就進入一隊，不管要花兩年還是三年。以現在來說，我覺得我們兩個都做的
不錯，正在朝我們的一隊之路穩定的邁進。如果這種情況能夠維持，那我想我們都有很
不錯的機會留在陣中。
對桑德蘭的比賽是你們兩個的英超首戰，你們覺得如何?還有Giuseppe，第一場出賽就
進球隊你來說感覺如何?
Rossi:我一直都夢想著踢英超，而能在第一場比賽就進球，這是我永遠也忘不了的事情
。我對那個進球記得的不多了，我印象最深刻的是進球之後大家都跳到我身上!那真是
很特別的時刻，而能與隊友分享讓我覺得很開心。
Pique:那對我來說是個很棒的日子，因為踢英超也一直是我的夢想。當你踏上球場時，
那種感覺是很難用言語形容的，不是很多人能有這種機會，所以這對我來說是種殊榮。
我得感謝Giuseppe讓我確定得到英超首戰的機會。本來二比零的時候我就準備上場了，
但當桑德蘭進球的時候，老大告訴我可能沒機會讓我上場了，因為比賽有點緊張。但
Giuseppe進球了，這表示我可以上場了，我跟Ruud在替補席上像瘋子一樣慶祝!
Rossi:喔對，我聽說Ruud當時想要衝上場來為我慶祝
Pique:他有試著這麼幹，但是第四裁判攔住了他，否則他會吃牌。
哪些球員讓你們學到最多?有任何一隊球員針對如何處理場上和場下的事情給你們任何
指導嗎?
Rossi:我想球員總是將踢同一個位置的球員視為榜樣，所以對我來說，Ruud是我的榜樣
。他是世界上最好的射手之一，而我總是向他學習。我想做他做到的事情，希望有一天
能步上他的後塵。
Pique:我也一樣，我學習的對象是Rio，Sil，We和Sheasy，他們總是想幫助我，特別是
Wes和Sheasy也是從曼聯青訓系統一步一步爬上來的。所有球員都有很豐富的經驗，他
們會教你如何處理一些情況，身為一個年輕球員這是很重要的。他們照顧你，因為他們

經驗了，在這個階段，這是我們還很缺乏的。我們每天都注意他們如何過生活，試著觀
察他們做了些什麼，這樣我們才能跟著沿用他們的範例。
Pique:很難相信他們只比我們大一點點。他們的素質和技巧簡直難以置信，有時候在訓
練場我們就是搞不懂CR是怎麼耍他那些把戲的!我認為他們每天都在進步，相信用不了
多久他們就會成為頂尖球員。
互相說說對方的優點?
(兩個人大笑)
Rossi:Gerard是個非常強壯的後衛，空中戰他幾乎不會輸。他處理球很冷靜，假如你把
球傳給他，他幾乎很少失球。總的來說，我們所有人都對他很有信心。
Pique:老實說，要幫Giusppe想到一點實在很難啊!
說真的，他不但的讓我感到印象深刻，你知道，不管從哪裡出擊，他總是很有機
會進球。他對桑德蘭的進球就是個簡單的証明。
Rossi:謝了Gerard。
最後，你們為這個賽季接下來的比賽有設定什麼目標嗎?.
Rossi:我主要的目標就是繼續跟一隊踢球，也許多幾次出賽經驗。我會繼續在訓練時努
力，因為那是一切的起點，訓練表現的好才有機會在一隊踢球，當然我也希望能在多進
個幾球。
Pique:就像Giuseppe說的，我只是希望繼續向其他隊友展現我能與他們依起踢球的實力
。去享受踢球是很重要的，如果你能享受自己的球技，你絕對能踢的更好。我們能像現
在這樣實在很幸運，很多人必須去找工作，賺錢過生活，他們有時候並不喜歡自己的工
作，而我們卻能做我們熱愛的工作。這種東西是買不到的，所以享受它並且表現出最好
的一面是很重要的。
