Game 2 Winners? Spurs & Sheriff Joey

SAN ANTONIO - Game 2 was a "statement game.''
Unfortunately for the Mavs - and maybe for the entire league -
it was Joey Crawford and the referees who issued the statement.
在聖安東尼奧的第二場比賽是一具爭議性的比賽。
同時對小牛也是一不幸的歷程，也許在整個聯盟比賽中都會生。
是 Joey Crawford 和裁判們引發了這樣的爭論。
As Nick Van Exel was warming up before Wednesday's WCF game in San Antonio,
he was approached by lead official Crawford.
"Don't mess with me tonight!'' Crawford barked.
Nick, figuring it was some sort of a joke, chuckled.
當 Nick 在第二場西區冠軍戰開打前作練習時，
lead official Crawford 走近他的身邊。
Crawford 嚴厲地告訴他說：「今晚別惹我！」
Nick 也輕聲笑著指出那實在是有點可笑。
"I mean it,'' Crawford said. "I'm Muhammad Ali: I'm a baaaad man.''

And so Crawford, a man of his word, took over the starring role
in San Antonio's 119-106 victory.
Joey played The New Sheriff in Town, and since this is the Alamo,
he must've had visions of he and his boys being Jim Bowie,
Sam Houston and Davy Crockett.
也因此 Crawford 成了馬刺在 game2 的勝利中的要角。（接下來…… > <...）
"So -- bang -- I threw him," Crawford said of his first-quarter ejection
of Mavs coach Don Nelson, one of seven T's in the first half alone.
"Bang''?

The San Antonio paper today notes that Crawford has a take-no-crap rep,
and that the Mavs should've recognized that. Two problems there:

that teams are supposed to adjust to the egos and moods of

What did Van Exel do to deserve his? Nick unhappily
rolled the ball along the floor.
The trail official immediately signaled 'T.'
What the trigger-happy trail official forgot to notice was
that Van Exel's roll was directly toward a waiting ref's hands.
Van Exel 又怎麼得了個 T 呢？他只是表情不愉快地讓球自然地滾向地板。
這些動則開輒的 official 忘了去注意到 Van Exel 只是讓球
直接滾向正伸手等球的裁判。
（說實話，這個 T foul 到現在我都很不滿意，真替小范叫屈 \0/ ）
This was ridiculous," said Van Exel.
"I don't think we had a chance to play well.
I think the players on the court are supposed to dictate the game,
nobody else is supposed to dictate the game.
…Somebody else just took the game from us.
It had nothing to do with what the Spurs did."
「這實在是太荒謬了。」小范說到：「我不認為我們有機會打好這場球。
我以為只有場上的球員才能主導整個比賽，但今天卻沒有球員主導這場比賽。

Added Mavs owner Mark Cuban (who's campaign for ref reform
has never been more justified): "It's pretty obvious what's going on."

None of this is to say that the wrong team won.
San Antonio deserved this win, just as Dallas deserved its Game 1 victory.
But the absurdity of there being THREE teams on the floor competing
for attention, THREE teams on the floor attempting to impose their will,
THREE teams on the floor trying to win, cannot be ignored.
這並不是說馬刺不該贏。他們是該贏得這一次的勝利，

The NBA is so bogged down in its own ineptitude here
that after halftime, league gophers handed out to the collected
media a press release clarifying Crawford's position.
The release was essentially written by TNT sideline
reporter Craig Sager, who expressed his support for Crawford's work.
NBA 當局在中場前的不適當表現使他們自己陷入泥沼。
他們在網路上對媒體發出的新聞稿中特別澄清了 Crawford 的職務。

Good gawd.
Maybe it's fitting for the network to have some input here,
though. As attractive as these two clubs are,
the casual fan who might've stayed up to watch Dirk vs. Duncan
and Nellie vs. Pop cannot possibly want to stay up
until midnight to watch Sheriff Joey.
真是不錯的上帝啊！
……………球迷熬夜應該是想看司機和叮噹的對決還有老尼和怕怕的門智。
他們並不希望熬夜到半夜卻只看到了 Sheriff Joey 的個人秀。
So more than the Spurs winning, Joey Crawford won.
And more than the Mavs losing, the NBA lost.
"Bang!'
馬刺贏得了這場比賽，而 Joey Crawford 更是大獲全勝。
小牛雖然輸了比賽，但 NBA 當局卻輸得更多。
「這還真是有趣啊！」
