Two games into the Western Conference finals and all the Mavericks
have won is the home-court advantage.

在歷經兩場的 WCF 之後，小牛反而要回了主場優勢。


Nobody need remind the them about the chance they have
and how fleeting the opportunity can be as the series moves to Dallas.

他們也知道能帶著這樣的機會回到達拉斯是多麼的不容易。
這不須任何人的提醒。


A year ago, the Mavericks were all giddy after splitting two games
at Sacramento to start the second round.
Then the Kings won two close games in Dallas and wrapped up
the second-round series in five games.

一年前，在第二輪的系列戰中，小牛在前二場國王主場的糟糕表現之後，
完全亂了方寸。然後國王便立刻在達拉斯再連下兩城，
且有多餘的五天來觀察其它場次的比賽。


The Mavericks say they will draw on the hard lessons from
that series going into Friday's Game 3 with the San Antonio Spurs
at the American Airlines Center.
The teams split the first two games at the SBC Center.

小牛隊認為他們將會帶著在上一季系列賽中得到的慘痛教訓，
而好好面對星期五在主場迎戰馬刺的比賽。這兩隊在前兩場中各下一城。


"I think from that point to this point, we're a lot better team,"
said Michael Finley, coming off a 29-point, 10-rebound performance
in the 119-106 Game 2 loss. "We've learned from our losses.
We've learned from our wins.
That series last year, we definitely learned
that you can't just be happy with getting one win on the road."

Michael Finley談到：「我想從那時到現在，我們已經變成一支更好的隊伍。
我們已經從失敗中記取教訓。同時也在勝利中學到許多經驗。
從去年的經驗中，我們學到在這艱困的比賽中，
你絕不能因為贏得一場比賽而有所鬆懈。」


While the average NBA player might guess that George Santayana
is the next European power forward to become a lottery pick,
the Mavericks are taking the philosopher's most famous quotation to heart.

Because they still remember the past, they hope they can
avoid repeating the same mistakes.

小牛隊並沒有忘了過去的教訓，他們希望他們能夠避免犯下同樣的錯誤。


"Your instincts will tell you, 'I've been in this position before.
What did I do wrong last time when I was in this position?
And how can I do it better,' " Finley said.
"We try to learn from our past not to create the same mistakes in the future."

Finley繼續說著：「你的本能將會告訴你--
『過去我在自己的位置上犯下了什麼錯？我要如何做得更好』」
  我們試著從過去的經驗中學取教訓，
  並期望不要在未來犯下同樣的錯誤。」


Against the Spurs, that might include containing the
relentless Malik Rose (25 points in Game 2); somehow
shooting more than 41 percent in a game;
avoiding five technicals and two ejections;
and reducing the TV face time of referee Joey Crawford.

和馬刺以及和他們 Rose 的對抗中，不知怎麼的他們的命中率超過了四成一，
除了五次的技術犯規和兩次的驅逐出場，還真是減少了裁判Joey Crawford 上鏡頭的機會。


But the Mavericks can also point to a 62-50 edge
in the second period and say they still won Game 1
in San Antonio without playing their best.

而且在球員表現不佳的情況下仍然獲得了game1 的勝利。


Maybe it's the forced maturation that comes from
surviving two Game 7s so far in this year's playoffs.

也許在經過季後賽連兩輪的奮戰七場之後，也迫使小牛邁向更成熟階段。


While the Mavericks have much the same cast of characters
from the team that lost to Sacramento, they now know
what they'll face along with the hidden pitfalls and booby traps.

They have confidence at home, where they've won
three consecutive playoff games for the first time
since 1988 and are 6-2 overall.

"I think our team is growing all the time,
" Steve Nash said.
"Last year, we were kind of playing with an unknown
in our mind, but this year we know what to expect.
We know we have to come out right from the start.
We're much more accustomed to what success in the playoffs is."

Steve Nash 提到：「我認為我們的球隊隨時都在進步當中。
去年，我們的確打得有點荒腔走板，但今年我們知道該如何表現，
我們必須在一開始就表現應有的態度。我們也更習慣於分辨何謂季後賽的真正勝利。


Just about the only person not hopping on a mental time machine
at Thursday's practice was coach Don Nelson.

Yes, the experience is helpful but Game 3 will be decided on
its own merits, not by what happened somewhere and sometime else, he said.

But are the Mavericks' mentally tougher because of the past?
Nelson hesitated only slightly.
"Yes," he said.

Don Nelson 說：「是的，這樣的經歷讓我們成長了不少，
但第三戰將會顯示出它所帶來的真正價值，
而不是從其它地方和時間所發生的事情來顯示。」

但小牛隊的心理素質真的因為過去的事情而變得更強韌了嗎？
老尼只稍猶豫一會兒，就堅定地回答：「是的。」
